Today we would like to ask you a personal question. In a lot of theories of personal development people should get out of their comfort zone to advance as a person and in life. What about you?

Do you try to get out of your comfort zone from time to time? And how do you do it?

Please leave your answer as a comment below this post.

I like to go out of my comfort zone from time to time. I get bored if I don’t do it, hehe. It’s the best way to learn and see how much I can improve my skills. Now I do it when I take the mic on the HHHLive shows hosted by @ph1102 in Ecency Discord server. I’m so embarrassed to talk in English but I try to do my best. 😅

It's a great way to push yourself to be proud of yourself :-)

A good idea to get out of the confort zone is to do a in deepth review of what you're doing and what are the results of it. With that you'll be able to see what you need to improve with out of the box ideas and new solutions.

That's a good point. Looking at the big picture and try to come up with solutions that can help us reach our goals.

Yeah. It's good to do that from time to time to see if you're going in the right path.

Actually, I don't even know.
I should probably change my life habits, and even that is questionable after so many years. The reason for that would have to come from outside.
At the moment I have neither the desire nor the need to do so.

At the moment I have neither the desire nor the need to do so.

I mean that's totally fine :-)

Haha, yes. But, as you know, everything could change immediately 😎

I don't get out of my comfort zone much lately. There's a lot of reasons behind that, but I haven't made much time for anything other than work or getting necessary stuff taken care of like getting food and the house work.

When we are taken by daily tasks it's often not easy to push ourselves to get out of the comfort zone and sometimes not necessary.

I do try to step out of my comfort zone whenever I can.
It's usually by taking on new challenges, trying unfamiliar activities, or learning something completely different.
It helps me grow and keeps things exciting.

It helps me grow and keeps things exciting

I think that you are right about that. Doing new stuff fires up our brain and even if it costs us energy it's a rewarding effect I believe.

Often it is situations that push me out of my comfort zone while other times it is my curiosity that pushes me out of my comfort zone.
Stepping out of one's comfort zone is also a way to test one's adaptability and break the boredom of habits

is also a way to test one's adaptability and break the boredom of habits

I totally agree with you. I think that the older we get the more difficult it is to get out of the routine and in a way it keeps us young if we force ourselves to take a step in unfamiliar territory.

I'm always looking for adrenaline. I don't know if this is something I was born with, but it's something that happens to me all the time. That's why I'm always playing sports. When I realize that I'm in my comfort zone, I go out and play sports or take some physical risks to challenge myself, whether it's running, fighting, visiting a waterfall or even hitting the road to some unknown place. This helps me to distract myself and get out of my comfort zone.

This helps me to distract myself and get out of my comfort zone.

For most of us it's easier to sit in front of the tv and watch a netflix soap. Others need this adrenaline push and in a way it forces us to be active.

It's sometimes difficult to get out of your comfort zone or stop being complacent. Sometimes it happens because you are naturally drawn toward something and want to try it. Other times, it happens as a result of noticing dropping results of what you were already doing and the need to try something new. I guess most of the times it happens as a result of someone else trying it before and sharing the experience. It can happen as a result of something abruptly interrupting your routines or plans, kind of like a wake up call. Recently, what happened on Thorchain might've been such a signal to some of us. It was to me. And it was a trigger to try out something I kept postponing, finding different excuses all the time.

most of the times it happens as a result of someone else trying it before and sharing the experience

I believe that it's up to us to consider such inputs as signals to allow us to go on a discovery journey.

I usually use stretch targets as a way to push myself. Stretch targets typically will be slightly tougher than normal ones and when you just work on it, you already started pushing yourself.

That's an interesting concept!

I don't think I've ever been in my comfort zone. I'm a nonconformist and I love discovering new things. Maybe I should stay quiet to get out of my comfort zone.

I should stay quiet to get out of my comfort zone

Haha, we are not all wired the same way :-). I also like to consider myself as a non conformist but when it comes to the comfort zone, I always have to fight an uphill battle to get out of it :-)

There are two things that I do to get out of my comfort zone.

  1. Since writing is not something I am good at, it means I try to avoid it. Creating content on Hive is a way to challenge this item that I try to stay away from.

  2. I am an introvert so being in groups is another thing I do not like. I have started going to see plays at the local theater to force myself to get out and around others. I still do not like it but the play is a distraction that helps deal with being out of my comfort zone.

It's great to put yourself in such situations where you don't feel comfortable. It allows you to evolve and you can consider it as small successes.

It is good, it gets you experience that can make some difference in your life. I am usually a person with many fears in doing that, but it has interesting results

For working: You learn different skills that can amplify your next job application areas. I was working 12 years in a specialized area, I changed a bit in this new job, I learned a lot that can be used in my CV.
In personal life: Living new experiences can break prejudices. Going to Disney was one of them. I would never think in going there, a childish place I thought to myself. But it was one of the places where I had the most fun in my life.

So I really recommend once in a while doing, including for blogging which can build more knowledge about topics that you weren't used to post about it.

build more knowledge about topics that you weren't used to post about it.

That's a good point. We can push ourselves out of the comfort zone solely by writing stuff that we are not familiar with. It allows us to learn more and do research.

In my opinion, it is more about strengthening our mindset to achieve goals in the future. Some goals do require getting out of the comfort zone to achieve more than usual. With a strong mindset and determination, each goal can be achieved and completed one by one. As a result, we have stepped out of our comfort zone without realizing it.

That's quite true. We set a goal and try to reach it one step at a time. Like that we don't see a mountain in front of us but just the next step on the staircase...

I think everything in life is a matter of small doses. You can decide to step out of your comfort zone now, and the result will be temporary, but try doing it slowly, things might turn out better, and that’s how I deal with it.

That's a nice way to view things!

My life, unfortunately, is a "comfort zone" that is difficult to stay in, as I have to maintain an exercise routine and also always seek to evolve financially, so the way is to always look for ways to improve and constantly challenge myself.

So you are being in constant challenge. That is not necessarily bad and it probably allows you to outperform most other people!

Yes and no, yes because I really have to calculate and try to be strategic in everything I do, from what I eat, the exercise I do, how I will avoid stress... but no because of the mental fatigue that this brings, you are always close to a limit and it is difficult to control the exhaustion. Type 1 diabetes is a tough job,I recently saw a scientific article that mentions that a person with DM1 makes on average more than 180 decisions per day just to "survive", trying to replicate the work of the pancreas is very difficult.

My mother has DM 2 and I can relate to the struggle that people who suffer from such an illness go through. You need to make sure that you stay healthy and that your blood sugar and insulin level stays in the correct zone.

It's exhausting on a daily basis, but I'm sure your mother seeks to maintain a quality of life by keeping her glucose levels under control and always seeking to have healthy habits. I'm sure she will win this battle.

All the time, I write out the goal and make plans to achieve it. Another useful thing to do is place it where you will see it daily to remind you to focus. It works in just about everything in life, from sports to academics!

Setting goals can be a big help to keep our attention focused on what we want to achieve.

I usually think clearly about what I want to change first, what new goal or focus I need in order to get out of my comfort zone, and once I've done that I start working out the possibilities, what I can do, how to do it, what options I have and so on. I think that's the first thing, to think about what I need to change and then go for it.

I also like to set an objective and then split this objective in smaller tasks that I can do each one in turn. Like that it's possible to do bigger things without being overwhelmed by the task from the beginning.

That's exactly it, there's no point in wanting to change everything radically, at least I think so, little by little you can also get out of your comfort zone and change things.

To be honest, I hardly push myself out of comfort zone. Most of the time, it's always due to external forces. But on a rare occasion, if I feel very passionate about something, I would definitely go all out to achieve it!

To be honest, I hardly push myself out of comfort zone.

That's totally fine. I like to do it from time to time but I often go only very slightly out of the comfort zone :-)

I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone with HIVE, trying to engage more with people by commenting and writing content - it’s a bit easier here than out in public! !BBH

Hive offers a lot of options to push ourselves to do things that we maybe are not so comfortable with. It's nice you are doing it!

Sometimes I need some time and in the meantime I convince myself that I need to change something and sometimes when I really need to do something I act without thinking because if I think about it I might find an excuse not to leave my comfort zone haha.

because if I think about it I might find an excuse not to leave my comfort zone haha

In a way you have to rush yourself before you think it through 😂

That's what I'm doing 😂

I generally don't get out of my comfort zone unless forced to. However when I do, it's because I wanted to do something or I reviewed what was going on with me and decided to make that change.

I reviewed what was going on with me and decided to make that change

The fact that we think about such things is already a great step towards making things better.

I'd say that I'm always willing to read and try out new strategies/techniques (proven ones of course, not wild ideas with no basis) when it comes to anything in life. Some of it has panned out, others less so, but the end result is that I learn from my lessons.

the end result is that I learn from my lessons.

Even when we fail in some ways, the learning effect compensates in most cases I believe.

goal setting and achoring.

I also like to set goals to keep myself going :-)

First, one needs to have the right personality to accomplish that, for example: someone negative, doubtful or just unpredictable will be just unsuitable. Second, having consistency ,which many also fail at.Thirdly, endurance as there will be obstacles on the way

Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

When trying to do something I am not familiar with (or feel scared I might mess up), I usually remind myself life is short and it's either now or never. Sometimes it works, at other times, it needs a lot more convincing or self-conversation.

The take a step back and look at things with another filter can really work. It can help to get out of fear mechanisms that prevent us from doing stuff.

That is true. It allows us to weigh in on things, especially when have doubts.

I will never say no to a task at work, at least not immediately. This has served me well so far in terms of career progression. You never know unless you try. :)

That's a good point. Not saying No immediately can help us tackle with something that at first could overwhelm us. After some reflection and calming down, it might be possible to do it.

It is hard for me to get out of my comfort zone, but it is the best way to learn and live experiences. Traveling is one of my ways to get out of that zone.

ALL THE TIME! The only way to grow is to put yourself in that situation. Of course you can go into it a bit prepared and there should be a method to your madness but it's self motivating and a great feeling of accomplishment.

Lately I don't know what a comfort zone is, my life is very busy with various projects. When I'm in my comfort zone I get bored because I'm not doing much or doing the same things every day!

A sudden cold snap in the weather here in Japan, so my comfort zone is sitting right in front of the electric fire, or hiding under my futon for as long as possible... However, I do hop briefly out of that particular comfort zone any time I have a shower, by starting with cold water no matter how low the temperature is! It feels great when you turn the tap to hot and begin to feel the warm water hit your body...
