I love the idea of the unreliable narrator, or the use of rumors and stories within a world to elude to larger events in the background of the narrative.

I don't know where I heard of gravity wells, but I think it was in some sort of game, or show. Interesting concept though, especially being used in the middle of an asteroid field.

It's my "go to" when I'm playing D&D and the players spot an inconsistency in the worldbuilding. "Oh, you must have heard it from someone who was misinformed, after all it's a long way away and you know how it is with rumours...."

Adding gravity wells to an asteroid belt is a hugely entertaining idea. As well as messing up enemy ships, it could make for an awesome high-stakes sporting event. You could have one-man racing ships doing crazy slalom moves to try to be first around a circuit or course, with a huge prize pot to the winner (or survivor...) 😁
