Shire... Baggins...

in Wednesday Walk10 months ago

Remember that scene from the first Lord of The Rings movies where Frodo and his pals are hiding under the huge tree root?

In case you don't remember, here it is:

And please do not even admit you haven't seen the movie. I will pretend I did not see the comment :p

Anyway..
I found that tree! :D

See? This is where they hid when all the nasty crawlies were coming out of the ground and root crevices.

And above there is the path where Nazgul was.
Tru story! I am not making this up!

🤣

You can't see there is a hideout when you stand above it. It is all covered with leaves, and just some mossy bits stick out.

This is a very big and very old European beech tree. Probably the biggest of this type in the forest.
Some years ago, this area was all messy, covered in lower bushes and ferns. In the part where the hole is, there used to be murky water with all kinds of rotten tree leftovers. It is dry now (or at least it was when I was there) and covered in a thick layer of leaves.

The path... it is also in the scene above when the distance zoom in in dizzy way. 😄

The whole forest is cleaner now and with the leafy trees it looks best in the fall. I stood there for a bit in complete silence and I could hear the leaves falling. Pure magic!

Last quick look at the hideout and I it was time to move on. I wanted to reach another part of the woods before it gets dark.

Autumn is my favourite season and when I get one like this hours of wandering around woods is just never enough.

Haha!!! Brilliant!!! Nice find - looks pretty well hidden 💫

Thanks! :D
The tree is right next to the path I took dozens of times before. But I never looked at it from the other side. It is a nice surprise :)

I can hear that forest from your photos! So beautiful.
I saw the movie, but I preferred the books. Can I admit to that?

Yes you can!
I read the books too before I saw the movies and they were great :)
The Hobbit as well.

I read them all, beginning with the Hobbit, whenever I feel I've forgotten a good deal of the story. I've read them so often now, that I know them very well. Maybe it's time to do it again. I think it's been a good twenty years since the last time. That'll keep me busy for some time!

I started from LOTR (after the first movie of the three was out I think), and then some years later bought the Hobbit. I probably should go though them again too... the LOTR we have are so old and were read so many times by many people they almost fall apart.

I think I know it better as a film setting in Harry Potter or in The Secret of Dumbledor😆

I confess... I have not seen a single Harry Potter movie :p

Is this a film setting location? It's interesting to be a 'very scary looking' place. Maybe a little lighting arrangement could make the place look romantic. of course with the dry leaves.

Is this a film setting location?

No, it is a normal forest :) It just reminded me of a movie scene. And it is not scary at all... very nice and spacious woods :)

A wonderful place for a Wednesday walk, I love the autumn landscapes
What a great discovery, great that you were in this significant place.
It doesn't surprise me that it is one of the oldest trees in the forest, those large roots are formed over time.
Have a beautiful day dear friend @ewkaw

Funny is that I know that part of the woods well, I just never noticed the huge roots on this tree before. It is absolutely amazing.

If someone says in the comments of this post that they haven't actually seen the movie and I'm following them, I will unfollow them haha. I love Lord of the Rings, it's the best! You managed to find that tree, you could really fit 4 hobbits under it.

I will unfollow them

Hahaha
I was trying to be nice by only ignoring the comments, but yea... unfollow seems very reasonable in this case 😂

Four hobbits and a bag of mushrooms ;)

This place looks like one Norwegian forest and few places the beech trees look similar. Nice finding :)

It must be very nice too :)
Thank you!

Thank you!

the forest is very shady and feels cool when you look at it, I also like seeing the leaves falling under the trees, the forest looks like in a movie with very large tree roots, it looks very beautiful
