Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for saturday, the 17th day of August, 2024. Happy weekend everyone. The EPL is back again after the break following the end of the 2023/2024 football season. Many football lovers will now turn their attention back to the exciting world of football.

Manchester United vs Fulham was thr first match of the season. Thanks to their new boy Joshua Zirkzee who converted a cross from fellow substitute Garnacho to give United à slim but deserved win last night. The game ended (1-0) in favour of Manchester United.

More matches will be played across England today and tomorrow.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Indonesia. He finds out that on this day in 1945, Sukarno declared Indonesia's independence from the Netherlands and he served as the country's first President from 1949 to 1967, after the Dutch handed over power four years later.

From Indonesia, Larry goes to the world of the Olympics. He finds out that on this day in 2008, at the Olympics in Beijing, American swimmer Michael Phelps helped his team win the 4 × 100-meter medley relay, making him the first athlete to win eight medals in a single Games.

From the world of the Olympics, Larry goes back to the world of literature. He finds out that on this day in 1945, Animal Farm, an anti-utopian satire by English novelist George Orwell, which later became a classic was published.

From the world of literature, Larry goes to Turkey. He finds out that on this day in 1999, A 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit near İzmit, Turkey, killing over 17,000 people and left 500,000 homeless.

From Turkey, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1927, Robert Shaw, an English actor, author, and playwright who rose to prominence for his roles in Shakespearean plays before embarking on a successful film career was born in Westhoughton, Lancashire, England.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the world of football. He finds out that on this day in 1977, Thierry Henry is a French football (soccer) player and manager who is regarded as one of the most prolific goal scorers of all time was born in Châtillon, France. Thierry Henry has scored more goals for his country (51) than any other player in French history.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
