I agree with you on our emotions getting in the way of letting things that no long useful to us go.

It takes a conscious effort almost all the time in choosing to let such things go.

I feel this way about the endless amount of "stuff" I have on my computer too. I have soooo many files and so many of them need to go. But it's tiring working through all the stuff, hey?

If there are too many, it will be a lot of work. I try not to get myself too attached to a lot of things, so I can take them out as soon as possible.
