3 Pics & a Story - Time to Get on Stage!

3 pictures and a quick story is sometimes better than a 15-minute read right? Here is my tale of a concert I got to play with the guys last month. 3 pictures and the tunes we were playing in each. Almost makes for a good #vibes or #threetunetuesday post eh?

The Band

Twice a year, I get to assemble with this fine group of brothers and sisters to play some live music. Once at an outdoor festival and another during our Easter Weekend show held at a classic concert venue in Toronto. We assemble a cabaret based on a theme, pick a band to emulate, or at least string together a few loosely related tunes. This year, it was all about the money. Kinda like a #pimp.

In the pic, we are playing Two Tickets to Paradise by Eddie Money. I love me some simple classic rock and rediscovered how much I like the vocal harmonies on this tune which was lots of fun to play.

Singing Lead

I am normally a rhythm guitar player singing back up vocals as I like to leave the singing to the specialists and the guitar soloing to the shredders. I do enjoy singing some karaoke but don't do much more than pretend to be a lead vocalist occasionally. Tonight was one of those nights. I was voluntold that I was going to be singing AD/DC this night and the other songs would sort themselves out with the theme. I am not sure how much AC/DC you know or are a fan of but stretching your voice to sound like Bryan Johnson is easier said than done and I had my hands full. Turned out pretty fun and the crowd was into it as you don't get to hear songs from this band live very often.

Money Talks was the obvious choice for the $-$ theme and I regained an appreciation for the rhythm section and eccentric guitar genius that is Angus Young.

Money for Nuthin'

Part of what makes this band special is that we all play hockey on the same team, and have done so in the tournament that sponsors this concert for 25 years. Seeing this picture from left to right as left wing, right wing, defenseman, goalie, left wing, right wing, defenseman, left wing and defenseman, kinda makes you appreciate team mates on the ice and on the stage. Some have played in bands with me, others very accomplished in their own bands, and still others don't even get on stage unless it is for this show. 3 rehearsals, only 1 of them with all members in costume and we manage to put on a show that we only hope is as fun for the audience as it is to play. Hanging out with everyone afterward, it seems that it was a success!

Money for Nothing is another obvious selection for the theme and is what we are performing in the picture. Such a classic first wave MTV song, legendary guitar player, and old enough to be cancelled because of the lyrics. Love the backup vocals by Sting that I enjoyed emulating.

Nice classic picks!
I played bass and also did backing vocals for a couple bands. Good stuff my dude!

I never knew that you were much into music especially for the fact that you’re a rhythm guitar player
Sincerely, it is really good to know

This looks like so much fun! A large band and a hockey team - you live the good life, don't you. I did not know you were a musician. I'm pleased to find out!

But no recording of your band and your singing?
