Evening folks

After a long day chatting to some awesome people in the Splinterlands Discord I decided to send some of my ideas to the team.

Fat Jimmy game me the idea so thanks to him I have spent the last few hours writing more than words than I have ever done in one sitting.

I'll split it up so we can get some feedback and counter ideas going if you all don't mind. So here it goes.

Please only come back at me with good reasoning, I don't just want spam hate etc

Last bit as some people seem to not like my writing style 😅 I am Dyslexic and hate using things like Grammarly as it depresses me so let me know if bits don't make sense!

Let's crack on!

Onboarding

Over the years I have been here I have done my best to onboard people to SPL and Hive in general. Before the bull run I was recommending SPL and to many a friend, colleague and to groups I am in.

I had a lot of luck and did bring many onboard. Well into the 100’s. then bull hit and I managed to get even more through. A lot was done through use of ‘tester accounts’ that I put cards on for people to play to try out and then managed to convert a lot to the game.

I never gave the promise of earning money I just solely went with Gameplay and community.
I used to stream SPL regularly and again never mentioned earning money unless asked.
Recent attempts have been fruitful but I have not managed to keep them coming back due to what we know as the NPE (new player experience). It is seriously lacking and a massive put off for people joining.

I have keen players with potential that are turned off within a week of playing. I even let them use my main account with levelled cards and modern really puts them off.
My current record is about an hour and they went back to things like hearthstone and RAID which they aren’t even earning from but are having fun playing.

Leagues
Since the removal of leagues, it is routinely hell in modern to even progress through bronze and I am an actual player and card owner. The game starts here so novice and bronze should be the companies main focus in my eyes.
I have done multiple trials with no cards and the experience is beyond vile. The bots spl added do help but even they are far between. I regularly hit gold+ accounts in bronze and after 10+ loses the game becomes very boring and I consider going back to botting or just not bothering.
Leagues were and would still be a massive part of the game imo and allow people to get to grips and enjoy the game without the constant barrage of crap they currently receive.

So:

A league structure reimplemented but with changes. Leaderboards are a fun way for people to track progress etc in a league but rewards would defo need to be gone. This would stop them camping in bronze 1 and just hitting LB rankings.

The reason this is integral again is the sheer amount of accounts with high levelled cards is rough and not a fun or fair experience. Even I have resorted to using higher level cards just to try and get out which is sad.

All the reasons for league removal have been poor so I assume there is a secret reason we cant be told.

With that in mind one of the heard reasons was people were going to be encouraged to level their cards instead of spreading them out. This to me is a lie as I know plenty who keep the single bcx as they are worth more than levelled. There is no point levelling cards unless you ca reach the next level so that is why cards were spread about. I did it for this reason so I could build my main account by using multiple accounts.

You shouldn’t be forcing people to buy cards, that is counter intuitive and will get people up in arms about it. You need the players to want to progress naturally and grow with the game. This is how attachments work and people then invest time, money and love into the products.

If a player jumps in with 400$ and has a poor time due to not understanding skill mechanics etc, they can be turned off. Then word spreads that SPL is a poor game.

If you want to be a casual player you can do so in a safe space and enjoy yourself without the pressure of people saying buy more cards or you cant play!

I highly recommend you start on a new account and try to climb the leagues. Doing this with SPL knowledge is hard, just imagine having no knowledge!

So that's part one of my nearly 3000 word write up that I sent to the Legend that is Royal Eagle. They are an amazing team member at Splinterlands and really is a great pleasure to know.
