Happy Sunday, readers! Sunday is closing out the weekend and we've had a busy weekend. Yesterday we went to a special fortieth anniversary service for Grace of Calvary Baptist Church in Erie, Pennsylvania.
I was recognized as one of the charter members forty years ago.
The church gave us all a mug as a token gift I felt undeserving because I had left attending the church wheh I moved to Conneaut Lake.
I fell away from my faith after Mom's suicide and my divorce as I struggled with God’s plan for my life. I returned to church during the pandemic by streaming services at www.graceofcalvary.com. Easter of 2021 we began attending each Sunday morning for Sunday School and church worship services but, because of the distance, we continue to stream the evening services on Sunday and Wednesday.
I would love to go to church more often to get more fellowship, but I content myself with Sundays and the monthly Handmaid's meeting with the ladies of church.

Today Jeff, my son, and my grandsons went to Sunday school and church. We are going verse by verse through Philippians in Sunday School with our Pastor, George Alquist. It's been an enlightening study and I look forward to Sunday school each week. It's relaxed and encouraging. The worship service was preached by a visiting evangelist, Dr. Hamlin. He has been an evangelist for forty-four years from the time God first called him to preach.
One of the boys' other grandmothers picked up the boys after church. Their Mom was having a small birthday party for Chris' fourteenth birthday. Jeff and I were invited to spend a day on a coworker, and new friend's, boat. We discovered last fall that although she lives in the winter in Florida, she and her father have a cottage in Conneaut Lake.
We left around two in the afternoon and rode in her speed boat to meet her new boyfriend's pontoon boat. We docked her boat at her boyfriend's dock and boarded his boat. Jeff wasn't aware until her boyfriend arrived that they have previously met at a local restaurant. Ironically, my friend met this gentleman at the restaurant the same day Jeff and I met her after we left for home and they have been seeing each other ever since.
My friend and her boyfriend have residences on Conneaut Lake shore and own their boats. The gentleman and Jeff had a lot to talk about. Her boyfriend was once a pilot, too. The sky clouded over around 4:30. We drove our convertible to her house so her boyfriend took us back to where we began so that Jeff could put the top on in case of rain. We continued in the boat for another hour and a half. My friend brought a cheese tray and snacks. It was a fun outing and probably only the third time since I moved here in 2001 that I went out on a boat on Conneaut Lake. Jeff prefers planes or trains to boats, he said. He said he had enough of being on boats in the Navy. His Dad also took him out on his sailboat as a young man but he never enjoyed it. His dad also taught him to fly and enabled him to get his pilot's license.
The rain began as a sprinkle, but it escalated to the beginning of a thunderstorm. My friend and I wrapped up in towels to keep the rain off our faces. Her boyfriend dropped us off at her place so that we could go home and we made it home in time for the six pm evening church service.
We watched the evangelist preach from home after returning from our boating excursion. He preached on the state of America and urged us all to pray for our country. I've been praying for many years as I've watched the country evolve in a way that has forgotten God.
It was a good weekend, apart from the fatigue from cleaning yesterday and the hip strain I felt last night. I am still plagued by the annoying eye twitch, but I'm thankful for the nice weekend, my family, church, and friends. I praise God for all of our blessings and now the night comes on a quiet, humid evening with a slice of supreme pizza for dinner.
