It's Tuesday and the day was a painfully slow work day. The new representative assigned to me to mentor had computer and connection issues so she wasn't able to join our Teams meeting to begin the day until well after 8:30 am.
When the representative arrived she was frazzled and frustrated with management regarding how her computer issue was handled. I suggested we would begin the day with me taking calls while she observed me and listened to my calls.
Yesterday she received no calls while she was logged in to receive calls. Today I didn't receive more than three calls between the time she joined me and our lunch at noon. When we returned from lunch, the trainee logged on to the phones. She didn't receive even one call. At 4:48 she suggested I log in to receive calls in case routing calls to her was the issue. That way she can at least see calls taken. It's hard to tell on a day when call volume is slow what's happening with. My previous trainee advised me that she was receiving many calls. Once I logged in I received three calls before the end of my shift at 4:30.
Tomorrow I will request that her skills be checked to make sure she's correctly set up to receive calls. I did enjoy chatting with her during the day despite waking up feeling awful again.
It was a nice day chatting with my trainee and learning a little about her, her son, and her pregnancy. She is a single mom and will be delivering a second boy in mid-July by c-section. She is not with the baby's father because he told her to abort the baby. He comes around a bit and does call and text her, but she said she can't trust him and has no desire to move in with him. She is grateful that she was hired by our company. My trainee confided that she regrets having to be vaccinated to be hired. I told her I requested and received a religious exemption for not receiving it. Because she's expecting she, like me, likes the convenience and savings that comes from working from home.
