La fuite désespérée
Kai repéra un tunnel d’évacuation à moitié dissimulé sous les décombres. Il sprinta vers l’ouverture, espérant que sa petite taille lui permettrait de se faufiler à l’intérieur. Alors qu’il atteignait l’entrée, un renard surgit devant lui, grognant férocement. Pris au piège, Kai chercha désespérément une arme. Ses doigts tombèrent sur une barre de fer rouillée. Il la brandit maladroitement, tentant d’effrayer la bête.
Le renard bondit, et Kai eut juste le temps de rouler sur le côté, évitant de peu les crocs acérés. C’est alors qu’un hurlement guttural retentit : Umbra surgit, frappant le renard de plein fouet et le projetant contre un mur. Le prédateur géant s’effondra, assommé.
"Entre !" grogna Kai en tapotant le métal rouillé du tunnel. Umbra, couvert de griffures mais toujours alerte, bondit à ses côtés. Ensemble, ils s’enfoncèrent dans l’obscurité, laissant la horde derrière eux.
Un abri et un nouvel espoir
Dans le tunnel, le silence reprit peu à peu ses droits. Kai, essoufflé et tremblant, s’appuya contre une paroi froide. Umbra, malgré ses blessures, semblait toujours vigilant, scrutant les ténèbres. Kai s’approcha du loup, posa une main tremblante sur sa fourrure et murmura :
"Merci... Tu m’as sauvé la vie."
Umbra répondit par un regard profond, empli de cette étrange intelligence qui semblait dire : "Nous sommes liés."
Alors qu’ils reprenaient leur souffle, Kai remarqua une lumière vacillante plus loin dans le tunnel. Curieux et prudent, il s’avança pour découvrir une porte en métal, légèrement entrouverte. Derrière elle, une pièce illuminée par des écrans encore fonctionnels. Les hologrammes projetaient des images de leaders du passé, discutant de stratégies et de la recherche de la paix.
Sur une table poussiéreuse, il trouva un bracelet métallique. En l’activant, un hologramme s’éleva, montrant des scènes du monde d’avant : des villes scintillantes, des forêts verdoyantes, et des visages humains souriants. Un message s’afficha dans les airs :
"Pour ceux qui trouvent ceci, souvenez-vous : l’humanité a chuté, mais l’espoir demeure."
Kai sentit une étrange chaleur l’envahir. Peut-être que tout n’était pas perdu. Peut-être que, malgré la terreur de ce monde, il restait quelque chose à reconstruire.
Avec Umbra à ses côtés, il était prêt à continuer.
The Desperate Escape
Kai spotted an evacuation tunnel, half-hidden beneath the rubble. He sprinted toward the opening, hoping his small size would allow him to slip inside. Just as he reached the entrance, a fox leapt in front of him, growling fiercely. Trapped, Kai frantically searched for a weapon. His fingers found a rusty iron bar. He clumsily brandished it, trying to scare off the beast.
The fox lunged, and Kai barely managed to roll to the side, narrowly avoiding its sharp teeth. A guttural roar suddenly echoed: Umbra charged, slamming into the fox and hurling it against a wall. The large predator collapsed, unconscious.
"Get in!" Kai growled, tapping the rusted metal of the tunnel. Umbra, covered in scratches but still alert, leapt to his side. Together, they plunged into the darkness, leaving the horde behind.
A Shelter and New Hope
In the tunnel, silence gradually returned. Kai, breathless and trembling, leaned against a cold wall. Umbra, despite his injuries, remained vigilant, scanning the shadows. Kai approached the wolf, placed a trembling hand on his fur, and whispered:
"Thank you... You saved my life."
Umbra responded with a deep gaze, filled with an uncanny intelligence that seemed to say, "We are bound."
As they caught their breath, Kai noticed a faint, flickering light further down the tunnel. Curious yet cautious, he moved forward to find a slightly ajar metal door. Behind it lay a room illuminated by still-functioning screens. Holograms displayed images of past leaders, discussing strategies and the pursuit of peace.
On a dusty table, he found a metallic bracelet. Activating it, a hologram sprang to life, showing scenes from the world before: shimmering cities, lush green forests, and smiling human faces. A message floated in the air:
"To those who find this, remember: humanity has fallen, but hope endures."
Kai felt a strange warmth fill him. Perhaps not all was lost. Perhaps, despite the terrors of this world, something remained to be rebuilt.
With Umbra at his side, he was ready to continue.
