Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!

Rinse And Repeat!

Well at-least that's what everyone tells us right!

I'm not fond of that lifestyle but more than often we don't have a choice!
Here I am back at the tearing down phase of it all!

It's fun in its own sort of way, really it is! But I'm in that let's get the work out of the shop!

A few days ago I tore down the 6-speed Ford manual transmission, now for those who have wondered what the 5-speed looks like... Here it is in all it's poor glory! Laughs I am not fond of these Ford transmissions!
They don't tear down easily.

They Are Quick Though.

That is one thing I can genuinely say about these transmissions, is that if you know how to tear them down, the job tends to go superbly fast! A simple pressing job can have all those gears falling out in a jiffy!

There is one catch to it though, and that is to catch them! You press everything out on the output shaft and then both the cluster and counter shaft comes falling out. Trust me when those shafts come loose from the bearings they get pretty heavy real fast!

Thank fully we have a nice way of doing things and I always grab someone to help me press while I catch the gears, preferably someone that knows to give a hand when done pressing! Laughs!

The Importance Of It.

Well, I can finally get the chance to say this!

Ever thought about that magnet on the inside of your transmission, well have you ever thought that's a load of bollocks! How could that save a transmission?

Well I'm not sure if it is meant to save it but this time it did!

The bearings started wearing out in this transmission and as the metal shed off the balls the magnet picked them up, this could have been a totally different situation if the customer drove for much longer. Then the metal shavings would have gotten too much for the magnet to keep holding!

All in all, the gears look great and this one will just need a bearing replacement kit!

Until the next teardown! Have a great one, stay safe and stay blessed!

Take note this is not a how to guide, merely myself talking about the work I do and my thoughts around certain things.

To everyone who made it this far into my post Thank you for the read and the support.
