Poor clothes

A few days ago my clothes had a rough day. I had run a washing machine with them when the power went out. What could I do? The last time this happened I was washing towels and when I finally got them out of the machine and they dried, they had a distinctly stale smell from soaking in water for a long time at the time of the power outage.
This time I decided to try to prevent this smell by running the washer through one more cycle. So the clothes were spinning for about 2 and a half hours, and it should have been over in an hour and 20 minutes if everything went well.
Poor clothes. I can imagine how they must have felt, being spun in the washing machine for so long. Dumb human, they must have been screaming from inside too, but I couldn't hear them anyway.
Well, I prevented the smell. But the trauma of the blackout remained. Both for me and for them, for sure. 😄
