Greetings!
Talent is ones natural ability to do things. It's one's innate skill and this skill will pave way for the talented ones. It makes the talented person sit, wine, dine and stand before kings and great men in the society. Talent. We've seen people, flourishing using their different talents in their different fields. Some in the field of sport, some in the music industry, we've some in the film industry. Some like messi and cristiano Ronaldo, it's their talent that's speaking for them. We have musician and basketball player, we have tennis player that are making it in their various fields. All of these people are making good use of their talents. Seriously, talent is a free gift from God.
Seeing this week ladies of hive prompt, I realized that I have a God given talent that can be used to develop myself and my immediate world. Though, this my God's given talent is quite different from all the talent I have mentioned before hand. But indeed, it's a talent that improves and impacts life, it's a life building talent. This talent is not a self centered talent, but a talent made for all. Hmmm, what's that talent of mine I wish to talk about. The talent is " Teaching."
To me, teaching is a talent and more or less, a gift. Let me say both compliment each other. Hmmm, I got this talent of mine from my mum and using it comes without any form of stress to me. Let me say its innate. I have been using this my talent to develop and build lives since I was in my primary school.
Seeing my mum using her talent to build people around her used to make me proud in those days. My mum being a primary school teacher, really made use of her God's given talent to the fullest, though not limited to the four walls of the classroom alone, she used it in our neighborhood, church and anywhere she found herself. No wonder on a particular day when we were strolling out of our neighborhood that a man in his fifties, whined down his vehicle window and said " mummy is this you, thanks for what you did for me, you really moulded my life." Seriously, my mum shouted his name Bayo! This is you, thank God you made it. She was happy and I too. But do you want to hear mum... you listen too much.
So, like I said earlier, I got to discover this my God's given talent right from my tender age of 8 when our class teacher in the primary 5 will always asked my fellow pupils to come to me for solutions to the difficult questions in class, by this time, I too was a pupil, but I used to solve and guide these my fellow students to solving the questions.
Also, when I got to the secondary school, I used to represent my school in competitions. But aside that, most of my classmates used to come to me to get questions solved for them. I used to tutor them without collecting a dime from them. Then, I was given a nomenclature The prof. Though I didn't let this get into my head, all I know how to dish out teaching to my fellow students. During the exam then, I used to organize tutorials for my friends and they used to enjoy it. This always come without any payment. I love to teach.
While seeking admission to the university, I chose to study education in order to refine my raw talent, at the university, I studied hard to build myself and in the process, students from my faculty used to come to me to explain some of those things that were not clear to them which I used to do without hesitation. I really enjoy teaching. Though, no one is an island of knowledge and maybe that's why I'm used to building myself before hand. Also, like during my days in my secondary school, I used to organize tutorials for my mate during the exam period. All these things has really helped to shaping my life.
So, after for years being spent in the university, I was posted to Imo state for my one year nysc mandatory service, after my 3 weeks on camp, I was posted to a village and in that village, there's only one community grammar school which is okwelle community grammar school, when I saw my ppa posting letter to school, I was happy and I received it with joy, though some were not happy to be posted to school, but because of my passion for teaching, I embraced it and in the school, I really impacted lives through my teachings and the extra mural classes being organized by me. I was so loved in the community and I was opportuned to meet the elders of the community, see where my talent is taking me to. I used to have free meal back then just because of my talent that paved way for me.
After my NYSC, I came back home and was looking for what to do, in that process, I went to an establishment and I saw one of my students whom I have taught in the past, he saw me and embraced me, not knowing that his brother was the one to interview me, he introduced me to his brother and seriously, the rest was history. Though I have left the establishment to the teaching line , but at first, my talent really paved way for me. Right now at my new place of work, the normal life of teaching and impacting knowledge has not elude me, I'm still that person that I used to be. Infact, another that has been part of me now is to give moral talk at the assembly ground, counsels students and even their parents and a whole lots.
Surely, my God's given talent is not hidden but open for all to see and feel and I'm fulfilled to have made use of the talent. In one of the biblical parables, Jesus christ talked about the talent where three people were given talent, 2 made use of it and the remaining one buried his own talent. And the talent was recovered from him and given to the first person. Talent is good to have, but making good of it is better. So, make good use of your talent for the betterment of you and the society.
This is my entry to the loh #216 weekly prompt.
