RE: For All Mankind

Nor I was in the know of this serial, neither planned to watch it, but still. Now I definitely not gonna watch it!

NASA team took the news and they started hating on Russia, communism etc etc. and drank alot.

😝

"watching paint dry" - oh, a nice vocabulary, I am taking it.

You also mentioned 'Foundation' serial. I did not watch it either, but have read the source books like 3 times (a long ago, back in 90-es). And quite recently, I stumbled at a little critical review for said serial, and obtained some opinion without examining the actual stuff. I took it so, that producers were able to create a very nice looking picture, with effects, visuals, etc. But. Scenarists produced some pretty usual sh....t.

I clearly remember that Asimov created this cycle being under the impression of reading a classical studies about the fall of the Roman Empire, the flavor of that story is almost the main thing in his book. The second important, key feature is this new science invented by Seldon. What have remained of his 'science' in this serial? Ha! Actually, nothing. Just guesses and brilliant insights, foresights etc. Also called as 'magic'. Sci-fi series "Foundation" lol... guess which one word is the odd one out?

Sort:

Those are really good points and I think the criticism is very well founded, especially with the lack of depth for the "Science", especially the cube which they tap 3 times to open 😅. However, there are some really great scenes and ideas of Asimov pursued that make the film enjoyable, although not covered as well as you might expect in a book by Asimov himself, you can still appreciate some of the thought-provoking ideas and enjoy the visualisation of some of them. The robotics part and AI are really thought provoking.

Real life parody - do you think Georges Lemaître had any inspiration from Asimov?
A Roman Catholic Priest created the theory of the expansion of the universe & created the big bang theory! What did the teach him at the Vatican! haha

Well, I am still intrested to examine the 'Foundation' serial - it just moved to the far shelf of the closet... maybe, some day, when I'd want to feed my mind with some space opera. 🙃
No idea about Georges Lemaître 's inspiration sources.
