Independence day :A reflection of freedom and unity

in Hive Naijalast month

First of October is a remarkable day in the history of Nigeria it is Independence Day. On this day, in 1960, Nigeria emerged as an independent nation, shaking off shackles from its colonial bondage. It becomes a moment of joy, congestion and appreciation for the struggle experienced and the benefits obtained. And so we celebrate this day, remembering and appreciating the dreams of our forefathers and sacrifices made by the innumerable Nigerians who fought for freedom.

This journey to independence was not a straight path
While we celebrate today, it is also very essential to reflect upon these values that form the bedrock of our Independence Day unity in diversity and resilience. Nigeria is a country made up of over 250 ethnic groups with various languages and their unique culture, which turns this into a strength and, at the same time, a challenge. Being able to embrace differences while working toward common goals is vital for national development. It is not the absence of colonial rule that defines independence but the continuous fight to establish a social order where every citizen has the opportunity to prosper, irrespective of his background.

Political instability, economic hardship, and social turmoil are what Nigeria has faced since the years immediately following its independence. But at the core, the misfortune among the people will always stand victorious. Misfortune from those trials as overwhelmed Nigerians is evidence of an unyielding Nigerian spirit.

Yet each time, an undying spirit seemed to keep it going within its people. It's what was called the indomitable Nigerian spirit: the ability of Nigerians always to soar above ill circumstances and plan for a promising future. So in season like this when we come together to celebrate our independenve and it also a time we the citizens show respect for what be achieved by our people.

It becomes a call into action for every good Nigerian who so wishes to participate in the development of the nation, whether through active citizenship, entrepreneurship, or community service.

Today also affords the opportunity to look at the role of the youths compared the development of Nigeria. These are the ones with the energy, creativity, and innovation that will bring about change. Empowering them with education, opportunities, and a voice will thus be key bricks toward the building blocks of a prosperous Nigeria. As we celebrate this Independence, we must be willing to invest in our youths and empower them to take responsibility first for themselves and then for the future of this country.

In conclusion, this is what it means to me: Nigerian Independence Day is not just a matter of history but a journey to which we will pledge ourselves for a better future. We come together in reflection of our past and imagine our future, start the spirit that binds us together towards a nation embodying the true meaning of independenc free, peaceful, and prosperous lives for all Nigerians.
