Hi everyone!
This series of sketches is a bit eclectic, as I drew in different types of complexity and approaches.
These were made with the intention of simplicity and dynamism. The ones above are the ones I like to do to warm up the wrist (and the brain too!)
The ones below are what you'd expect from a gesture sketch, done in just 2 minutes. I did a bit of construction to visualise in 3D.
Tracing the central line of the body first, starting from the neck to the pelvis, helps me to quickly get a nice rendering of the body's volume. They are important volumetric markers, that give consistency to the design.
The one below is more accurate. I tried to give a realistic feel to the muscles. You can see that I start with a construction of the rib cage and pelvis for the right one. Once again, this allows me to have a solid base for posing the volumes after.
I also take care of what we call the overlaps, what shape goes over another ; this is an another important aspect of the volume.
