Raisin and Spice Bar Day + Día de la Barra de Pasas y Especias [Eng+Spa]

It's Saturday, April 6. My day has gone somewhat uneventfully, but I learned of a worrying incident at home. By the way, I plan to focus this day's record more than anything on commenting on an anniversary in the area of #food, and more specifically #sweets. Although I think that 'cereal bars' can be a snack with their own category. Before all this, let me make a few brief comments on issues in my #life offline.

I found out from my brother, that today he had to confront a man who was hanging around the house and trying to loot and steal things. It wasn't extremely dangerous, but that was because the thief wasn't in a very aggressive mood. And my brother didn't want to get into a fight, because his arm would fail, and he would be at a disadvantage. The thief left after an argument, but our concern continues to grow. I wish my brother had had a better day.

Let's move on to the topic of today's celebration, because I need to cheer up a little. It's about the fact that today is 'Raisin and Spice Bar Day'.

If you are surprised that there was a celebration of this particular thing, let me share your surprise. I found out that it was a day of celebration that was born in the United States, as a 'National Day'. And that it seems to have to do with the intention of creating a recipe to take advantage of surplus nuts and raisins that originated a particular bar energy.

I would have expected the festival to be ancient, but it seems that it was born during the 20th century. Even so, #raisins are dehydrated grapes, whose presence in gastronomy dates back about 4000 years, according to archaeological records from sites in Egypt. Its use in food dates back to that time, it passed to other ancient civilizations and spread throughout the world.

For their part, #spices are also an ancient element in the cuisine of various parts of the world. They can be traced back to various traditions, from civilizations such as China, India, and many others. However, the conjunction of various species, from different continents, began to be carried out more easily from the 15th century onwards. Before this, there were mainly land routes that provided these goods for trade, but after the voyage of Vasco da Gama (1492), which established a maritime route between Europe and India, naval transport became the most relevant.

The change in the trade route, and the use of new naval technology, gave a very strong boost. This allowed an acceleration of historical changes and a new economic dynamic. A century later, industrialization gave another leap to everything, and manufacturing increased its production, in addition to new means of transportation enabling new trade dynamics, reducing freight time.

From there, I jump to the present. I know the time jump is very abrupt, but I'm running out of space I had planned for today's post. Finally, in the 20th century, we added air transport and an acceleration in the means of land and naval transport. In addition to greater manufacturing speed, and more efficient ways of producing raw materials for processing. With this, we reach a 21st century in which we enjoy the benefits of all the advances, but also certain problems, such as overconsumption, a sedentary lifestyle and other things that harm us.

Considering that the use of raisins and energy bars were to preserve #meals and to provide rations that were long-lasting and had a good weight-quality ratio (which makes them a product very typical of the military field). It may surprise us that we consume them as a treat today, even by people who don't exercise much and have a low calorie demand.

Anyway, I say goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read each other another time.

Sorry to hear about the incident, that happened to your bother.

Is stealing quite common there?

In Oman, we are pretty safe for that. But, not in Bangladesh!

#aliveandthriving

It was my brother who found the thief who had tried to steal and kicked him out, but he worries that the next time the thief may come drugged, or better armed, or with more people, and decide to attack.

Personal security on this side is not good. And since we live more or less remote, thefts occur in several nearby houses and land.

I don't complain much, because there are places in my country where personal insecurity is much worse, and it is normal to hear of cases in which a small community (besieged by criminals) has deaths every day, due to armed confrontations between gangs. It is not that we are at war, it simply happens that every country has its 'dark zones' where civilized Law is useless.

Poetic but sad truth!!
