[Eng+Spa] World Meditation Day + Día Mundial de la Meditación

Sunday afternoon is ending, the weather was rainy at dawn and the electricity failed a lot, but we have taken advantage of the moments between failures, and we have been able to cook with the electric stove and have things in order at home. We bathed Vero the cat, and now my brother is going to take care of the dogs. My #life has continued to be relatively calm, just the way I like it.

This working week that begins tomorrow I have to go to the city and meet, in person, with my colleagues from the University. This working remotely has its uses, but there are things that I must do 'in person'. In general, I used to be quite an introvert and little given to leaving the house since before the pandemic, that trait of my personality has been accentuated after spending about 3 years in a long 'quarantine'. I suppose it may be related to what has been referred to as Cabin Syndrome, which now seems to be a big problem for a number of countries.

Está terminando la tarde del día domingo, el clima fue lluvioso en la madrugada y la electricidad falló bastante, pero hemos aprovechado los momentos entre las fallas y hemos podido cocinar con la cocina eléctrica y tener las cosas en orden en casa. Bañamos a la gata Vero, y mi hermano va ahora a encargarse de los perros. Mi #vida ha seguido estando en relativa calma, tal como me gusta.

Ya esta semana laboral que comienza mañana tengo que ir a la ciudad y reunirme, en persona, con mis compañeros de la Universidad. Esto de trabajar en forma remota tiene su utilidad, pero hay cosas que debo hacer ‘de cuerpo presente’. En general, yo solía ser bastante introvertido y poco dado a salir de casa, desde antes de la pandemia, ese rasgo de mi personalidad se ha acentuado luego de pasar unos 3 años en una larga cuarentena. Supongo que puede relacionarse con lo que se ha mencionado como Síndrome de la Cabaña, que parece que ahora es un gran problema para varios países.

I admit that I don't really like leaving the house, but duty calls, and it's time to attend personally. Anyway, I have to hope that nothing problematic happens in this matter of returning to work 'offline'. Perhaps I should take my time tonight to refresh an old practice that just today has its day on the calendar. When reviewing the ephemeris that was celebrated today in #History, I found that it was the 'World Meditation Day'.

#Meditation, as a practice, has its roots in history and is somewhat lost in time. It is quite difficult for me to reach a consensus on the beginning of this practice, especially when a good part of its nature and practice is mixed with mysticism and religiosity. The act of meditating implies a series of conscious actions that involve: breathing, body posture, body movement, preparing the environment, mental visualization, the use of sounds (mantras, chants, vocalizations, etc.), in addition to use of various implements and clothing.

Admito que no me gusta mucho salir de casa, pero el deber llama y toca asistir personalmente. En fin, me toca desear que no suceda nada problemático en esto de regresar al trabajo ‘fuera de línea’. Quizás me convenga tomarme mi tiempo esta noche para refrescar una vieja práctica que justamente hoy tiene su día en el calendario. Al revisar en las efemérides que se celebraba hoy en la #Historia, me encontré con que era el ‘Día Mundial de la Meditación’.

La #meditacion, como práctica, hunde sus raíces en la historia y se pierde un poco en el tiempo, me resulta bastante complicado conseguir un consenso sobre el inicio de esta práctica, más cuando buena parte de su naturaleza y práctica se entremezcla con el misticismo y la religiosidad. El acto de meditar implica una serie de acciones consientes que involucran: la respiración, la postura corporal, el movimiento corporal, la preparación del ambiente, la visualización mental, el uso de sonidos (mantras, cánticos, vocalizaciones, etc.), además del uso de implementos e indumentarias diversas.

Personally, I have come across people who are quite rigid in the 'rules to meditate', which I find quite contradictory to what is supposed to underlie the very action of #meditating, in short, they put on a great outfit of rules, of clothes, postures and mantras that if they are not performed in the indicated way, then it is not meditation... In my point of view, that I am extremely pragmatic, as long as the result is quite similar or identical to what is desired, then you are meditating.

Much of the meditation that I remember from my youth in the last century was too mixed up with mysticism and the metaphysical. I have lived long enough to understand that not everything can be explained scientifically and that there are quite a few 'weird things' in this world. But, I got a little bored that they try to reduce the need to think and reason, leading everything to metaphysical, magical, religious dogma or some similar field.

En lo personal, me he encontrado con gente que es bastante rígida en las ‘reglas para meditar’, cosa que encuentro bastante contradictoria con lo que se supone que subyace a la acción misma de #meditar, en fin, que se ponen un gran conjunto de reglas, de ropas, de posturas y de mantras que si no se realizan de la manera indicada, entonces no es meditación… En mi punto de vista, que soy extremadamente pragmático, mientras el resultado sea bastante similar o idéntico al que se desea, entonces se está meditando.

Mucho de la meditación que recuerdo desde mi juventud, en el siglo pasado, estaba demasiado entremezclada con el misticismo y lo metafísico. He vivido lo suficiente como para entender que no todo lo podemos explicar científicamente y que hay bastantes ‘cosas raras’ en este mundo. Pero, me hastía un poco que se trate de reducir la necesidad de pensar y razonar, llevando todo al dogma metafísico, mágico, religioso o de algún campo parecido.

But there are several ways and traditions for this of meditating, there is stationary meditation, but there are also traditions of moving meditations, there are those who meditate sweeping, others meditate while jogging, there are those who reach a point of calm and focus (very characteristic of meditation) while doing something very unmystical, such as snipers of elite, who are reputed to be able to even make your heart beat slower to reduce the interference of your blood pulse with the shot you are about to fire.

La meditación que recuerdo tiene efectos en los cuerpos de las personas, con consecuencias que han podido registrarse, tales como el cambio de su ritmo cardiaco, de su frecuencia respiratoria, de su presión arterial, de su liberación de varias hormonas, e incluso de cambios favorables para la cicatrización de tejidos y mejoras en el sistema inmunológico.

Pero hay varias formas y tradiciones para esto de meditar, hay meditación estacionaria, pero también hay tradiciones de meditaciones en movimiento, hay quienes meditan barriendo, otros meditan mientras trotan, hay quienes alcanzan un punto de calma y enfoque (muy característico de la meditación) mientras hacen algo muy poco místico, tal como es el caso de los francotiradores, que tienen la fama de que pueden incluso hacer que su corazón lata más lento para reducir la interferencia de su pulso sanguíneo con el disparo que van a realizar.

So, if you have a particular way to get to the point of relaxation and concentration, today is a good day to put it into practice, even if you don't have to sit in the Lotus position, place incense or chant mantras in ancient languages. Just seize the moment, relax, release the pressure of yesterday and tomorrow, focus on the present moment... and enjoy your meditation.

Sorry to hear that you have to come out from your comfort zone to go personally to the University. However, life goes on. Sometimes we need to do something we are no longer comfort with. Hope that nothing problematic event takes place on resuming your offline activities.

Regarding meditation, I never did any. Our five times prayer is a form of meditation where there are certain rules we need to follow. It is nowhere near the meditation the current world is advertising on.

By the way, I don't usually meditate much, but when you comment on the prayers, you remind me of a friend, who is more religious than me, and who had told me on some occasion that his prayers produced a state of calm and They helped to advance in their day to day, so I suppose that (in a certain way) praying can be equivalent in some aspects to what is the effect of a meditation.
