If some of you have followed me before, you know that I have already told you in several previous posts about my father. In fact, thanks to him I have been able to know a lot of music from other times. In this case it so happens that this song is also thanks to him. First in the case of him, he grew up listening to music from the sixties and seventies, so “Soy rebelde” was one of those songs he listened to. Then when he got older and married my mother he brought his musical tastes with him. And nothing the thing is that in the end we all grew up at home listening to the songs he liked.

To be honest, many of the songs he listened to I learned from listening to them in the background, almost without choice. I mean, I didn't like all of them, obviously it was music from another era. But in this case it was different. I did like it, mainly because of Jeanette's soft and a bit melancholic voice. In my opinion she is not really “singing”, but rather confessing something very calmly. Sometimes it's as if certain tracks just connect effortlessly, and, in my case, this track was one of them. At least for me it got a 10/10.

Part of that is thanks to the meaning of the song. If you listen closely, it doesn't speak of a “rebelliousness” as one might think in common sense, of someone forcefully standing up to society or defying established norms. In reality, it is more of a gentle rebellion, a desire to feel understood, loved, and accepted, something that for those who have ever felt out of place, is like a small salvation. For me it was, the truth is that I have gone through several very hard stages and I think that in a way it helped me along with other songs that I usually listen to.

The lyrics show how this “I am a rebel because the world has made me this way” is not a choice, but a kind of resignation in the face of a life in which, in the end, one only longs to be loved. I find it somewhat curious how the song manages to transmit, so to speak, the sadness and the hope of this song.

By the way, I regret that nowadays Jeanette is not as active in the musical world as she used to be. She has a way of singing that goes beyond the technical. So far in my opinion I have come across few songs like this one. So friends, I want you to listen to the video of the song as well so you can see for yourself.
