Happy Saturday friends, what a lovely day, isn't it? Well, today is Story Saturday and as those of you who have been following me for a while will know, today I am going to share with you a new story that I have made for you. I have written it about the R208 Emily card. To make the story I have been inspired as always by the art of the card, which as you will see has a somewhat gothic style character. And precisely the story will be related to that, as it could not be otherwise. I hope you like it, if you wish you can leave me your opinions about it in the comments, and even suggestions about a new card to dedicate my next story to. With this explained, we begin.

Friends Emily was a rather cold person and a woman of few words. Everyone always stopped to look at her when she walked down the street in the neighborhood. She almost always looked straight ahead without looking to the sides and she didn't say hello to anyone. And sometimes she wore headphones in which she played the metal songs she liked the most so she wouldn't even have to listen to people talk. She liked to be alone and that was a way to isolate herself from society. And of course I can't forget to tell you how it's obvious that she always dressed in black wherever she went. For some, her appearance and way of being left a message like, "don't mess with me." But you know, she didn't act like that to be cool or out of rebellion, nothing like that, that way of being was her way of keeping the world and her people at bay.
But all of this way of being of hers has a clear explanation. You see, it all started many years ago, when she was still a little girl. Ever since she could remember, her house was a boxing ring in the verbal sense. That is to say, her parents created the problem and in a certain way forged her personality. They were always fighting over everything, money, time, even the taste of coffee. Insults come and go, they shouted at each other in front of her. It was because of this that she had such a cold personality. The truth is that life at home was a constant chaos, and when her parents finally separated she was only twelve years old.
Because of this event she created a kind of confusion that over time became a ball of rage without direction. She spent most of her adolescence following this way of being, every day she was a little darker in every sense, she did not have many friends except for her aunt Patricia who was one of the few who understood her. She spent many years alone and without having anyone to vent to. But then, something came into her life and it was her way of telling the world what she couldn't say with her own words, that is, she started listening to metal music. That music filled her with an energy that was positive and negative at the same time, even she herself couldn't explain it.
Outside of that bubble, her life was still boring and bitter. At twenty-eight, she continued day to day with the same routine as always. She worked in a bookstore, she was dedicated to restoring old books and also some not so old ones. But every day she had to do the same thing. The only thing that kept her motivated to continue in that job was that she liked to fix things. So she could repair the books and that kind of helped her relax. But the same routine of every day was broken one Tuesday. I tell you this because a woman of about forty years old or so came to her work. When she got to where she was, she saw that this woman had a kind of strange energy, but at the same time Emily found it interesting. She also dressed like her and had the same gothic style, so in a certain way they connected.
In the end they greeted each other and said their names, the woman was called Lidia. She told her that she was in the bookstore because she was looking for a book for a community project. She told her that she wanted to set up a workshop that was more of a writing club that she and some kids from the neighborhood had. The book in question she was looking for was a book that a metal band had released decades ago and she couldn't find it. Emily knew that said book was in the bookstore so she told her that she was in luck. She went to where it was and gave it to her. Out of curiosity she asked her if she liked the music of that band. And Emily told her yes, it was one of her favorites and that she had listened to all their songs to date.
When Lidia realized that she was a fan of the same band, she said, “You know, you would connect very well with us in the book club,” “Most of us love their music and you have the same vibe as us,” “How about you join us or at least visit us one of these days?” You know, Emily hesitated, in fact her first impulse was to refuse, but unlike other people, Lidia had a similar personality to her and in the club there were more people with the same way of being. In the end, she said that she would go, but just to see. Lidia laughed and told her the address and the time when the group would meet again and then left. You know, this meeting with her made Emily happy in a certain way because it had been many years since she had a friend and for the first time it seemed that she had found a place for herself.
The days flew by and the day of the meeting arrived. When she arrived, she saw that the place had a rather gothic aesthetic, just what she was looking for, so she got a very good impression. When she entered, things changed a bit, because unlike her, the young people inside were not bitter or serious, even though they dressed like her, they were happier than her and they had fun. She thought that they would all be cold and bitter, but it didn't turn out that way. In the end, she entered because she couldn't leave, she was already inside.
As soon as they saw her, everyone introduced themselves and were very friendly. Lidia was the leader of the club, so she introduced Emily to the others. The experience was very good, because everyone sang their favorite songs, read the books of the bands they followed, and discussed topics that interested them, and Emily too. At first, she just stayed in her corner, handing out papers and organizing books, and tried not to meet the gazes of others, but inside she felt good in the place. She wanted to express it, but at that moment she didn't have the courage.
It wasn't until she went to a club that she started to notice changes in herself. They weren't big, but she saw that she debated with others, participated in a song or two with them, and gave them books from her personal collection. These changes were the beginning of leaving her bitter personality behind. She saw that if you open up, you can be happier, because her classmates used the same gothic style but were kind and treated people well, there was no need to be bitter to lead their lifestyle. That's why a short time later she began to see things differently. If she looked in the mirror, she still saw a girl in black, but now she didn't feel so defined by that. Her style was part of her, but not all of her. That's what's important.
That's why from then on, she began to look for a balance. That is to say, she was still a fan of metal and the dark look, but she opened up to other things. She signed up for a photography course, something she had always wanted to do but had avoided out of fear of interacting too much with people. And she started to greet people and take an interest in others. She sent Lidia a message of thanks several times for avoiding her at the club, she told her that if it weren't for that, she might not even be in this world anymore, because she was more bitter every day, but being with people like her taught her many things, that's why she was grateful.
The truth is that she continued to change little by little, obviously it wasn't overnight, nor was it easy, but she felt accompanied and happier. A long time after that, she didn't become another person, nor did she stop wearing black, she just became a better and more complete version of herself. Because the important thing is not to become something we are not, but to change ourselves for the better.
