We were lucky enough to be at a major Tokyo shrine on Japanese National Day, a public holiday long weekend to, I think, celebration when the empour first sat on the throne.
Luckily, because there was so much happening even thought it probably made everything a bit hard to manage and negotiate as a first-time visitor to Tokyo.
First up, we visited the famous 5 way crossing, I thought Sapporo crossing looked better, but it might have just been the difference of all the night lights that enhanced Sapporo.
Then we walked up the road to the trendy fashion and shopping area. Both the first stops were pretty impressive, but the shrine on national day was even better.
It was like every local community group had their own costum, and they were carrying heavy wooden mini shrines to and from the main shrine.
It was very interesting seeing a different culture and customs, especially when we had no idea it was on and were just heading to park for a walk amongst the trees.
