As September begins those of us up north are beginning to see signs that summer is ending.
September is known as Harvest Month. Tomatoes are ripening, it will soon be time to dig onions, and APPLES!
Many varieties are becoming ready to be picked. Teachers will be planning class trips for younger pupils and taking them to visit local orchards.
Baked apples are a great dessert for this time of year.
You can stuff the apples with raisins, dried cranberries, nuts and maybe a dash of cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar.
They smell wonderful while baking and for me they bring back lots of childhood memories.
Baking takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the apple
You can also sprinkle a bit of confectioners sugar on top.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away!
originated in Wales in 1866 as “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you'll keep the doctor from earning his bread”. The phrase evolved over time, appearing in its current form in 1913 and becoming commonly used in 1922.
