Recently we have been hearing about AI driven devices since reports of OpenAI partnering with Apple. On the other hand, OpenAI's other partner, Microsoft announced integration of GPT-4o to new devices under Copilot+. Rather than requiring cloud, Copilot will run locally on laptops and tablets.
How is this different?
This update requires the use of a neural processing unit or NPU, a chip that can process AI tasks quickly (40 trillions of operations per second) and at low power. As mentioned above, tasks are done locally and not on cloud providing more security.
Recall is a snapshot of the user's activity. As the name implies, the user can "remember" everything he has seen on the PC. The user can search the PC to retrieve the info if he needs it.
Cocreate is an AI imaging tool that assist the user as he draws or creates art. It's like having an art tutor on hand while you draw.
My Thoughts
AI is still new but rapidly growing. Copilot+ is one of the early players of this technology but we will see others following soon with local AI in the near future not only on PC's but smartphones and tablets as well. On the other hand, there are still fears around data security risks i.e., on Copilot+ recall feature. Below is the statement of UK's ICO (Information Commissioner's Office).
