Toast Week! Which that I Made was Your Favourite?

in #foodie4 months ago

Bread, almost everyday!

From my previous foodie post of my week's food with a baguette, some kimbap and even a tortilla wrap, this week I was blessed with a high fibre multigram loaf of bread while I was finishing my baguette.

Saved in the freezer.

The good thing about bread when you store them in the freezer packed nicely, they do last for almost a month, and the best part is that when you take a frozen slice and toast it, it will not be overly toasted and the ice in between soften and freshen up the bread.

I remembered some years back I saw this hack technique about how to "revive" your dried up bread, and one of our hivians here (who's a chef) also mentioned about the "magic" of reviving your bread with water over an oven, I have used this technique to help keep my bread stay fresh longer

Not to mention, I went crazy with "Avocado and toast" haha....

My own way

First was since I still have some eggs lying around, I made a mustard mashed eggs with a bit of honey vinegar with half an avocado, open sandwich style.

This serving itself lasted me almost 5 hours because I took time to chew and enjoy every bite of it (especially baguettes aren't the easiest to eat quickly even though it is re-toasted)

I actually remembered that I visited a restaurant / café with a friend with a special combination of sandwiches including green apples! Though I didn't have tuna, as it was too expensive for me for a small can, I just opted for avocado and green apples with a slice of cheese. It was still equally filling and I guess I had enough "fat" to keep my brain going most part of the day.

And when Avocado sales ended, to try to stretch my remaining avocadoes without paying too much for a non-sale fruit, I made mashed avocado spread with black pepper and lemon juice instead, used the panini maker to cook and egg with a slice of smoked chicken slice, spread out a generous amount of butter on the toast before the assembly and had that wholesome first meal before pushing through work and loads of meetings, recordings and troubleshooting work to do.

Thrifty and healthy, as much as I can.

How about you?

Which sandwich would be most appealing to you to make if you have such resources in your hand, or you'd just make a simple PB&J (Peanut Butter and Jam) and just get on with it?

I skipped jam as much as I can to reduce as much sugar intake as I can possibly can until my next gynecology appointment. Hopefully I do not need to do a biopsy by then.

Until Then

I am more like a "sandwich 🥪 eater" than a "sandwich maker" 😀😋! My wife is doing the second part pretty well. But I never paid attention to the ingredients she was making!

Your photographs look delicious. I guess the dishes were too!

Haha. As long as you are provided with good sandwiches.
Blessings to your wife!

Fascinating about the toast. I learned something new from your post. I also like preparing sandwiches for my meals. I sometimes have ham and cheese, pb & j, egg salad, or tuna. I haven't tried freezing bread yet though. Keep on sharing thrifty and healthy tips. Happy new week ahead!

Yeah give it a go on the frozen bread hack, especially when you know they may be expiring soon. It will expand greatly on the lifespan of the bread.

Happy trying!
