Two weeks ago, I got a letter from my daughter's school. The letter said that there would be a leadership camp for three days. Every student should pay the fee for the activities.
I heard from my neighbor who studied there before but I was shocked because the timing was very short. It was only 10 days. I should prepare $40. I did not have idea where the money from but I should pay for because my daughter would miss the event if I did not accomplish the fee.
Then ,I borrowed money from an online lending institution with a term of 1 month. I got the money and paid the fee. I did not tell to my daughter about my financial problem. I just motivated her to join the camp.
My daughter felt happy because she could join the camp. On Thursday 15 , August, all the students left for Sumedang by bus.
My daughter took a shower early in the morning, then I took her to the bus stop where all students should wait there. There were more than 10 buses in the school yard.
It was six 15, I arrived there. My daughter went straight to the bus no 8. I waited for the bus to leave for. There were some parents who took their children in the school yard too.
As a parent, I felt worried about my daughter going to a new place for camping. However, I should let my kid learn to be self reliant. She should also learn responsibility.
All the buses had left. I monitored my daughter via What's app group. The teacher always updated the students' activities.
All students should stay in a tent. They had a lot of activities. I got some photos from the teacher.
The program was held once. All students should join after they had paid the fee. Students who did not pay the fee, they could not join.
In my opinion, the program was good to train self reliance and responsibility. Students also learned to socialize in small teams. They should work together. It meant that they had to put off their ego.
My concerns were reasonable but the purpose of the program convinced me to give my daughter confidence. Therefore, I encouraged my daughter to obey all the rules.
Learning outside the classroom needs to be given to train non-academic potential. Becoming an independent person with problem-solving skills will be a provision in my child's life in the future.
