Welcome to the world of chicken breeding, where passion meets practicality. I've been nurturing my flock since buying DOCs in August 2024. Now, with eggs daily, it's not just a hobby but a modest profit venture. Join me as I explore this fulfilling journey, blending traditional farming with modern insights.
I bought the DOCs on August 8, 2024. They are now 6 months old. They have grown into adult chickens. The comb of the chickens has perfectly appeared as a sign of maturity and fertility.
In a week, 4 adult chickens need a kilogram of factory-made chicken feed ($0.66), a kilogram of rice bran ($0.33), and some household waste (free).
The total cost for a month is ($0.66 + $0.33) x 4 = $3.96. If all chickens lay 4 eggs every day, I will earn $0.53 per day. In a month, I will earn $16. It means that the profit from breeding 4 chickens is around $16 - $3.96 = $12.04.
The earnings from breeding chickens are like a farming game. The more chickens I have, the more eggs I will get. I plan to breed more chickens in the future.
As a conclusion, breeding chickens is my hobby. The eggs are a bonus for my consistency in doing what I like. I also plan to breed local chickens as meat producers that command a high price in the market. Local chickens are a kind of medium-term investment because they can be sold in the market after they are 6 months old.
What do you think of breeding chickens? Breeding chickens can indeed be a rewarding hobby, especially if you enjoy the process and the products like fresh eggs or even meat. It also seems like you've thought through the economics, which is crucial for any small-scale farming venture.
