There was a prompt released in the World Building community asking us to describe the process of joining a group in our settings.
Here's A Link To The Prompt If You'd Like To Check It out.
The Guro Sprinters
A highly secretive organisation operates on the capital planet of Free Space, Jex, and in this world, their work is rarely conducted outside of the mega-city known as Talirda.
They are ghosts and tend to use technological trickery to avoid being seen, as well as silent weaponry to conduct their business without being heard:
- Splicers: They can break into the security systems of most buildings, the only thing that can stop them from doing this are Zero Runners, or Digi-Guards, who are essentially digital defenders who can not only break Splicers, but they can also mark their location, even if it's being bounced.
- Specter-Suits: A bygone piece of equipment that was thought to be lost, but made its way to the underworld. It's old military tech, and at that, it was only out of its prototype phase before the research centre developing it was bombarded from orbit.
It's said that the Scavengers Guild were the ones who resurrected this piece of tech, along with many others. They were able to reverse engineer and reproduce specter-suits, along with many other pieces of lost tech. Scavengers Guild members now have a price on their heads throughout the galaxy, due to their selling to criminal groups, which caused some of these factions to become better equipped than most law enforcement on most worlds throughout Free Space. Some even theorised that they could be agents of The Confederation working to dismantle what was left of the FSA.
- Cold Blades: An antiquated piece of equipment that was created on Scoosha and used for mining. The user could boar through most materials using them and break large junks down within minutes for easier transporting. They're silent and tend to be the weapon of choice for The Guro Sprinters.
Many on Jex believe that this organisation was formed on Scoosha, for the use of these weapons. But, there is no solid evidence to support this as the few attempts to capture members failed, because when cornered the members end their own lives ensuring secrecy is maintained.
Targets
The Sprinter's main targets are high-ranking military officials, corporation heads - (Corpses), banking clan leaders, and politicians, and sometimes they'll take contracts on crime lords.
They charge a premium price and refuse to sully their name by killing low-value targets, and they pride themselves on being discrete so most would seek them out to conduct these types of hits due to the guarantee there'll be no reproductions.
This organisation came to prominence in the early days of the reconstruction of Talirda. Many corporations sprung up from the ruins with unthinkable wealth hoarded since before the war, and they got right back to work. Being a lawless world - for the most part - many leaders took hits out on each other in an attempt to gain a stranglehold on the entire world. From this, only a handful of corporations own nearly everything in this world, mainly thanks to The Guro Sprinters.
Some heads were far less desecrate, however, and armed a para-military group that leveled an entire complex which sparked an actual war that shut most of the city down.
How To Join
They don't accept new members lightly, and if one was trying to join they would have to undergo a string of attacks to show that they were capable.
- Attack A Network: The fledgling Sprinter would need to single-handedly Splice into a defended network, and outrun a Digi-Guard. They'd need to alert the defender of the system, abort, and then make it away from the crime scene without being caught.
- Kill A Guro: They would need to travel to Scoosha, claim their own Cold Blade, and then use it to kill a wild Guro: A large ferocious animal native to Scoosha. After they kill it, they would need to take its skull back with them to be fashioned into a headpiece.
- Complete A Contract: After all of that is complete, they would need to be given a Deathmark, and complete that task. Only then would they be able to start climbing the ranks and take on larger jobs.
Finding them is the hardest challenge however, and would need to be done before even thinking of joining their group.
