Let me tell you a story about the sports franchise I have been tied to for pretty much my entire life....
So I grew up in Toronto, Canada. And we never had an NFL franchise. We had hockey. Oh boy did we have hockey. But no NFL...
Toronto is about 2 hours from the American city of Buffalo, New York. And guess what they had....An NFL franchise.
I remember going to after school care when I was like in grade 3 and watching the Buffalo television stations because they had the best cartoons...And when commercials came on, I started seeing players from the Buffalo Bills doing these commercials. And the Bills being advertised all the time...
As weird as it sounds, that's what drew me to this franchise. I thought football was fun, but without a Canadian team to cheer for in the NFL, I pretty much adopted the closest American city's team.
And my love / hate relationship with them began....
The first taste I got of what it's been like to be a Bills fan was the FIRST wide right game. Notice I say first, more on that in a minute....
The Bills were in the Super Bowl, and we were a 40 plus yard field goal away from winning the franchise's first championship. The field goal kicker, Scott Norwood, ended up slicing the ball and it went 'wide right' of the field goal poles.
The Bills went on to lose 3 more consecutive Super Bowl losses that weren't even close. But forever, the franchise will be tied to....Losing 4 championships in a row.
Then came the 'Music City Miracle'....Where the Tennessee Titans 'lateraled' a pass to beat the Bills and eliminating them from the playoffs which began....What Bills fans call....The drought!
17 years of misery.
We never even sniffed the playoffs, and then had to deal with the dynasty that was being built in New England and a guy named Tom Brady.
But then we made it to the playoffs....And then we lost. But the hope was there because on one fine spring morning during the 2018 NFL Draft we drafted...Josh Allen.
The unicorn of all unicorns to play the QB position. And then the next wave of disappointments and heart breaks began. Oh boy, where do I start....
13 seconds.
12 men on the field.
Damar Hamlin.
Just Google any of those terms, and you'll find the misery that is....The Buffalo Bills franchise.
Of course tonight was no different....
Once again, we got beat by the Kansas City Chiefs, this time on our home field by guess what....Another 'wide right' missed field goal....Among other things.
Losing. Heart break. Disappointment.
It's part of sports. Heck, it's part of life.
I guess me writing all this down might be considered therapy....However to be honest, I'm so numb from it all. Literally, nothing surprises me when it comes to this team losing it. I even tweeted out to the Bills twitter account:
What's funny....This one Tweet has received almost 42,000 impressions already lol Misery loves company ;)
But alas....I'm a glutton for punishment. I'll lick my wounds. I'll stop watching football until the pre-season. And in about a month from now I'll be screaming....It's almost draft season.
Go Bills :(
Forever.
