Taking street photographs is something that can become addictive and I myself am a clear example of that, as I am used to doing this almost every day. However, sometimes I can do it as "therapy" and that's the case that applies to today's edition of my photographic series "THE WAY I SEE"...

Hacer fotografías callejeras es algo que puede convertirse en adictivo.Yo mismo soy un claro ejemplo de eso, pues acostumbro a hacer esto casi a diario. Sin embargo, algunas veces puedo hacerlo como "terapia" y ese es el caso que aplica a esta edición de hoy para mi serie fotográfica "THE WAY I SEE" (LA MANERA COMO VEO)...

Our state electricity company has the "sadistic" habit of rationing its service several times a week in our town (yes, in some third world countries we humans have to suffer this kind of events)... Today the "blackout" happened from 11:30 AM to 06:00 PM... At noon the temperature here was about 36°C and the solar radiation is very high, to this we have to add the presence of huge mosquitoes (they look like small chickens with a sword instead of a beak) in large numbers and an exaggerated appetite for human blood... So staying indoors without the possibility of using electric fans or air conditioning, makes us easy victims for these little flying beasts...

Nuestra empresa estatal de electricidad tiene la "sádica" costumbre de racionar su servicio varias veces por semanas en nuestro pueblo (sí, en algunos países del tercer mundo los humanos tenemos que sufrir este tipo de eventos)... Hoy el "apagón" ocurrió desde las 11:30 AM hasta las 06:00 PM... Al mediodía la temperatura aquí era de unos 36°C y la radiación solar es altísima, a esto hay que sumar la presencia de enormes mosquitos (parecen pequeñas gallinas con una espada en lugar de pico) en grandes cantidades y un apetito exagerado por la sangre humana... Así que quedarse dentro de las casas sin la posibilidad de usar abanicos eléctricos o el aire acondicionado, nos convierte en victimas fáciles para estas pequeñas bestias voladoras...

So instead of staying at home and having to choose between being bled by blood-sucking mosquitoes or dying of allergic shock caused by an overdose of insect repellent, I opted to take my camera out into the streets. This allowed me to observe people trying to survive the hours without electricity and also to look at the streets in a different light to the one I am used to when I go out in the mornings...

Así que en lugar de quedarme en casa y tener que optar entre ser desangrado por mosquitos chupa-sangre o morir de un chock alérgico causado por una sobredosis de repelente contra insectos, opté por tomar mi cámara salir a las calles. Esto me permitió observar a las personas intentando sobrevivir las horas sin electricidad y también mirar las calles bajo una luz distinta a la que acostumbro cuando salgo en las mañanas...

I find that the streets of the village look different in the midday light. Also, taking pictures under these conditions is a bit challenging. The brightness and the exaggerated contrasts force you to deal more consciously with the exposure in order to get decent pictures...

Me parece que las calles del pueblo lucen distintas con la luz del mediodía. Además, hacer las fotos bajo estas condiciones es algo desafiante. La luminosidad y los contrastes exagerados obligan a lidiar de manera mas consciente con la exposición para poder tener foto decentes...

I almost fainted from the heat a couple of times :)), but I managed to keep going for a little more than 4 hours wandering the streets. I took shelter several times under the shade of trees or under the eaves of the roofs of the old houses in the centre of town. This allowed me to recover and to continue taking photos in all that time... Whenever I do this at these times (few times a year actually) I always get the kind of pictures that are significantly different from my standards, so I enjoy it without any doubt...

Estuve a punto de desmayarme por calor un par de veces :)), pero pude mantenerme un poco más de 4 horas deambulando por las calles. Me refugié varias veces bajo la sombra de los árboles o bajo aleros de tejados de las casa viejas del centro del pueblo. Esto me permitió recuperarme y continuar haciendo fotos con todo ese tiempo... Siempre que hago esto en estas horas (pocas veces al año en realidad) obtengo un tipo de fotos que se alejan significativamente de mis estándares, así que lo disfruto sin lugar a dudas...

_{ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.}

_{NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.}
