GMI Burleson in the EC/Copa studio of Radio 10
It's not every day you get to spontaneously play a Grandmaster. Today, I was listening to the Breakfast Show on Radio 10 while driving to work after dropping my kids of to school. The guest was Guno Burleson, a checkers (draughts) legend, who still is ranked as one of the 150 best players in the world by the World Draughts Federation with a 2240+ rating. Burleson is a multiple time Surinamese Champion and Pan American Champion, as well as a former World Youth Champion. And that's when host Sidney decided on a challenge his guest to a game of checkers.
It was a fun game, and credits to GMI Burleson for playing along and pulling tricks or flat out destroying my game from te get-go. He playfully played along, answering the questions from the hosts and allowing me to make my own mistakes until I had no way out of the positions I put myself in. Even allowing take backs, just to keep the game alive and more fun for others to follow.
All in all, a fun start to a very rough day.
Today, I went 7 out of 20. And more just wasn't possible, because I had to strategic sessions of 3 hours each, which means everything else was put aside.
And what that meant? Maybe, I'll share it tomorrow.
Or tomorrow will be a totally different freewrite. Who knows.
