On the spring river | Reflection Hunters Contest ~ Round 162

in Shadow Hunters8 months ago

Hello, friends.
Last Saturday I was driving to the village, the road went along the river bank. Calm, windless weather, the slow flow of the river and the white outlines of ice on the banks forced me to stop, get out of the car and take some photos for the Reflection Hunters Contest ~ Round 162 by @olgavita.

The ice drift has already passed, the surface of the river has cleared of ice, only on the banks and on the islands there are still ice floes, reminding of the past winter. Looking at this river, it’s hard to believe that half a century ago, almost every spring, it overflowed its banks and drowned settlements located on its banks. In the early 70s of the last century, a system of protective dams and locks was created on the river. Nowadays, this river is more similar in character to an artificial canal, where there is always the same smooth flow.

On the bank where the road runs and where I stopped, poplars grow. These trees have a weak root system and often the blowing winds uproot the poplars; it’s good that they do not fall towards the road, but usually into the river.
Birch and pine trees grow on the opposite bank of the river. These trees are not afraid of any hurricanes. They serve as a decoration for the landscape in both winter and summer. Now, the reflections in the water of the still bare birches are diluted with the greenery of year-round pine trees.
