One of the collections I have from long ago is the Americana Series of coins. An example of a penny, nickel, dime, and half-dollar from around the turn of the century.
They're all pretty worn, but are still good examples of the specimens.
I like the half-dollar best as it's the largest and best example of the Barber series of coins.
We can also see the reverse of the coins. They have very handsome designs in my opinion. They don't make them like these anymore.
The old penny has a particularly interesting design on the back. Even though it's worn down, it still has an appealing design.
Racketeer Nickel
This is NOT a racketter nickel as the word "CENT" is clearly under the V. But the history of the original design is fascinating.
The first design of the nickel didn't include the word "CENT" on the back, but had the large "V" meaning five in Roman Numerals. Before people were familiar with this coin, tricksters would plate this nickel in gold and try to pass it as a new $5.00 gold coin! This is why CENTS was added in clear letters under the "V" so there would be no confusion about the value of this coin.
It was called a "Racketeer Nickel". An authentic gold-plated Racketeer nickel goes for a lot as a collector's item. The most famous racketter was a man named Josh Tatum. He became so famous, the phrase "I'm just Joshing" came from his name.
This is an authentic five dollar gold coin:
This is the gold-plated Liberty Nickel. Could it pass for a five dollar gold coin?
If someone has never seen a real gold five dollar coin before, knowing it was a "liberty" bust with stars around it, yes someone could be tricked.
Or "Joshed".

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin
We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.
No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13
Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny
Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.
Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.
I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.
