Playing with my family [eng/spa]

At home we look forward to the weekends, especially Sundays, because after all the intensity and movement of the week, nothing compares to the pleasure of enjoying family time. On that day, we usually wake up a little later than usual, drink a cup of coffee, call the rest of the family that lives in another city and then... go play! The afternoon is filled with laughter and fun. We have three board games that are our favorites: dominoes, One and cards, in that order. We always accompany these moments with some music, which is never too loud so that the desire to dance doesn't take away our concentration.

En casa esperamos los fines de semana con mucha ansia, sobre todos los domingos, porque después de todo la intensidad y el movimiento de la semana, nada se compara con el placer de disfrutar de tiempo en familia. Ese día, por lo general, nos despertamos un poco más tarde lo usual, bebemos una taza de café, llamamos al resto de la familia que vive en otra ciudad y luego… a jugar!!!
La tarde se nos va entre risas y diversión. Tenemos tres juegos de mesas que son nuestros favoritos: el dominó, el Uno y los naipes, en ese orden. Siempre acompañamos estos momentos con un poco de música, lo que nunca es muy movida para que los deseos de bailar no nos quiten la concentración.

I think that for a great part of Cubans the love for dominoes is very common, I would say that it is "the national board game". At home we play it in pairs: one team is made up of my cousin and her boyfriend and the other of my aunt and me. However, these pairs can vary when we have guests at home.
I especially am very competitive and like to win, so when the game starts, I merge with my team partner and we are always on the offensive with our opponents, which adds excitement and laughter to that time slot.
The dominoes we have at home are double dominoes, and the game consists of each player, in turns, trying to place all his dominoes on the table, and the first player to run out of dominoes accumulates all the points derived from the sum of the other team's dominoes. In our case, each player chooses 10 tiles at random, and the game is won by the first team to accumulate 150 points.

Creo que para una gran parte de los cubanos es muy común la afición por el dominó, yo diría que es "el juego de mesa nacional". En casa lo jugamos en pareja: un equipo lo componen mi prima y su novio y el otro mi tía y yo. No obstante, esas duplas pueden variar cuando tenemos invitados en casa.
Especialmente yo soy muy competitiva y me gusta ganar, así que cuando el juego comienza, me fusiono con mi pareja de equipo y siempre estamos a la ofensiva con nuestros oponentes, lo cual le imprime emoción y risas a ese espacio de tiempo.
El dominó que tenemos en casa es doble, y el juego consiste en que cada jugador, por turnos, intenta colocar todas sus fichas en la mesa, y el que primero que se quede sin fichas acumula todo el puntaje que se derive de la suma de las fichas del otro equipo. En nuestro caso, cada jugador escoge 10 fichas al azar, y la partida la gana el primer equipo que logre acumular 150 puntos.

The second game of our preference is One. At home it was the last of the games to arrive, but from the moment we learned it we found it extremely fun, and although it has not managed to surpass dominoes, it scores quite high in our "popularity ranking".
The game consists of trying to run out of cards before the rest of the competitors. Initially seven cards are dealt, and these are placed in turns and must be of the same color or type (except if it is black); and in case of not having any, a new card must be drawn. When one of the players has only one card left in his hand, he must shout One before the next competitor plays or someone else tells him to do so, otherwise he is penalized. We do not play in pairs, each player fights to win the game.

El segundo juego de nuestra preferencia es el Uno. En casa fue el último de los juegos en llegar, pero desde el momento que lo aprendimos nos resultó extremadamente divertido, y aunque no ha logrado superar al dominó, puntúa bastante alto en nuestro "ranking de popularidad".
El juego consiste en intentar quedarse sin cartas antes que el resto de los competidores. Inicialmente se reparten siete cartas, y estas se van colocando por turnos debiendo ser del mismo color o tipo (excepto si es negra); y en caso de no tener, se debe coger una carta nueva. Cuando a uno de los jugadores le quede una sola carta en la mano, debe gritar Uno antes que juegue el próximo competidor o que alguien más se lo diga, pues en caso que no sea así resulta penalizado. Nosotros no lo jugamos en pareja, cada uno lucha por vencer la partida.

Finally, in our preference is the Spanish decks. In our case, we have a deck of forty-eight cards, and we prefer to play war. Other variants of this game can be found, but the ultimate goal is always to win all the cards. The game consists of dealing all players the same number of cards, and each card has a value, where always the ace beats all and all beats the 2.

Por último, en nuestra preferencia se encuentra las barajas españolas. En nuestro caso, tenemos un mazo de cuarenta y ocho naipes, y preferimos jugar a la guerra. Se pueden encontrar otras variantes de este juego, pero el objetivo final siempre es ganar todas las cartas. El juego consiste en repartir a todos los jugadores el mismo número de naipes, y cada carta tiene un valor, donde siempre el as gana a todas y todas le gana al 2.
