Race to Earn

Moon Karts, is the latest creation by the minds that brought you Splinterlands, is a subject that is looking to take the excitement of live multiplayer racing and combining it with NFTs. Built using Unity and operating through Arcade Colony, Invennium is leveraging its successes into this new project.

The Whitepaper states that Moon Karts

"represents a bold fusion of high-octane kart racing and the lucrative framework of play-to-earn gaming." - Moon Karts White Paper

Gameplay & Earnings

Racers collect cards of varying rarities and combine them to upgrade their Karts giving them a competitive edge, not only increasing their chances of winning but also earning them greater rewards in the process. With upgradable drivers, vehicle components and more, awaiting in store for players. Moon Karts offers a unique experience for players seeking to race and earn.

Similar to Splinterlands, there are 4 different rarities for the components; Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. These components can also be found in a regular or gold foil edition, with the gold contributing to higher earnings. The components can be opened in packs or via the marketplace allowing players to buy or sell to one another. Cards need to be levelled up and combined in order to upgrade over time and improve your kart. Combining gold foils will require less gold foils and you will be able to stack gold foil parts to build a much bigger bonus, having a gold foil selection of components.

The COLONY reward tokens will be distributed as follows:

- 40% distributed to the Orbitals Pool

This is where the bigger spenders and investers in the game stand to earn more. The more invested you have in the game the more your multipliers will kick in here. As you collect Orbitals and win races, your combined gear rating will multiply putting you into a separate leaderboard which calculates using a large 40% portion of the reward totals. This is where the bigger rewards are to be found.

- 25% distributed to the Ranking Pool

This is where your ELO and overall skill level is rewarded. A great incentive and those with the skill and investment into the game will truly be rewarded with a good portion of the total Colony rewards.

- 10% allotted to the COLONY tokens that are found on the race track

I think this is the most interesting aspect as it allows players to complete their race runs and collect tokens as they race. It reminds me of Mario Kart and racing to collect the items to use against opponents. Instead of using it against opponents, you get to upgrade your car components and drivers. An exciting prospect indeed and having those tokens in your inventory at the end of a race you lose is pointless - as they only count if you win.

- 5% to the Referral Pool

This makes sense in my opinion, looking through the White Paper it does mention caps regarding totals to this which is a good idea as it stops one person referring and gaining the entire pot or a whale share of it. It does state in the White Paper that if the full 5% is not utilised then it would be put toward the next set of referral calculations incentivising other players to refer and build a bigger player base. At most a player is capped at 0.5% of the total reward pool or 10% of the referral pool. The system works on points and every $20 a player spends will earn their referring player a point for the leaderboard.

- 20% towards the Seasonal Pool

This is where the end of season totals come into play. This is similar to Splinterlands in the sense that a total amount is collected and then shared at the end of the season. A season lasts 10 days and 20% of the daily reward gets released at the end of each season. The calculation for the rewards is done through snapshots at various points of the season to ensure a fair balanced experience for all.

- Moon Domes

This is most likely going to be an expensive addition but players who own Moon Domes when they are introduced will be earning a percentage of the race totals for every race held in their Dome. This is a nice way to earn passive income but I'd imagine this could be quite costly for players, to incentivise the gameplay side of things. More on this to be seen though.

Final Thoughts:

I am more than interested at this stage. I personally will be taking a much deeper dive into Moon Karts because not only is it from a team who understand Play to Earn mechanics but it also has a replay-ability factor

With the team from Splinterlands involved, I know there is a high quality game which will get targetted support from day one. With players able to race and earn in comfort that a team with an established Web3 reputation is behind the scenes making every effort to improve the gaming experience.

This is a game that will have me coming back for more, time and time again.
