In a case of acute lower back pain following lifting a heavy object, avoiding lifting heavy weight and taking some rest should be a priority.
In a case of acute appendicitis, which is an acute surgical emergency, an appendectomy should be done first.
In a case of allergic dermatitis in a palm, the allergens need to be avoided and (if related to work) work needs to be changed as the priority.
However, the reality is we are always going for alternate options.
