Getting bored during my medical consultations.

Health is always a concern in our family's mind. We know how important is monitoring our health and we try to teach that to our kids as well. Since they were born we followed all the instructions given by our family doctor with regular checkups and vaccination schedule. Even during our reality worries about the economy we still need to keep thinking about how we are taking care of our health, which includes our daily feeding and regular check-ups. It is highly recommended to be educated to do these check-ups in addition to keeping attentive to onset symptoms that could be a sign of a concerning health event.

I turned 40 years old last year and I got the age that prostate cancer monitoring is important. As we get old the risk of cancer gets higher and I am a real witness to that. My father just got a recurrence of cancer and the cause probably is age-associated. Cancer like prostate can be early diagnosed if you do these check-ups. My doctor check-ups are scheduled around my birthday always, which is in June. So last check-up was the first that the doctor gave me a Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood exam in addition to other markers that are always in my blood work requests.

Usually I don't bring many concerns and nothing has been triggered until now in my blood exams. Maybe the only yellow flag is the Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels that are around the regular limit, which is probably due to my need to improve aerobic exercises and less meat consumption. I have been trying to improve that but regular routine is difficult to establish and maintain with at least running exercises. I just came back from vacation from Mexico on Saturday and I was planning to start running on Sunday, but I couldn't I was too tired since I had to accomplish many household tasks.

Also I always exit the medical office with the prescription for my daily medication that I have taken since 2007, Warfarin, and also for the INR blood work which I need to do once a month usually to monitor my coagulation and possible dosage changing needs of this medication. Despite our commitment to our health check-ups the medical office visitation usually isn't very pleasant. The doctor is an old widow lady that talks a lot and sometimes too much. The appointment time scheduled doesn't occur at the same time and the waiting time is around 3 hours to get into her office. In addition, she likes to talk about anything not concerned with the specific appointment, such as politics and even about other patients, which is pretty unethical.

We will keep going to regular check-ups which occur yearly for all of us. Mine is coming again in the middle of the year hopefully nothing will come out with the next routine blood work. But I am pretty confident that at least for the 4 of us the only thing to be bothered this year about health is about silly viruses and bacteria that could affect once in a while. I just hope that my next appointment doesn't take so much time of my day like the other times.

The time that is wasted in the health care set ups is really annoying. More frustrating are the cases when you have to wait despite having a prior appointment.

Why don't you think of xhanging your doctor if that lady is that much talkative and unethical about sharing the patient's information

That's the problem of Canada's public health; we don't have many options, and those who have a family doctor are lucky to have one. Sometimes, you wait up to 2 years to get one.

Does it mean it is the government that arranges doctors for everyone

Yes... you can leave your doctor anytime but you go back to the queue hehe and not sure how long it will take to access another one. And I have small kids I feel more safe if there is someone available to us.

With young kids it is better to have that time-consuming widow as your regular doctor.

Well, we don't have such facilities to have a doctor from the government. We gotta spend a lot of money for having our health in check

Brazil was like that, but here we don't have the option to pay hehe everything is public in Health...at least immediate healthcare like hospital and doctors. Only dentists, optometrists, physiotherapists are paid

That's wondeful. I think the two area in which we need to spend the most are health and education. If they ar free, we can easily go on raising our life standards

It's not to be said tough that high PSA isn't a sure cancer, it could easily be IPB most of the times... What a weird doctor, politics and other patients lol why don't you change her?

Thanks for the correction! You are correct high PSA isn't a 100% certainty of a prostate cancer, it can led to more exams to check it out.

About the doctor, not sure how about is the public health there....but here we have a problem with the number of family doctors, so we are lucky if we find one that at least has positive points. This one have many ethical problems, but at least it can treat us. Many people wait in the queue for a family doctor for years sometimes. I have a family with small children it is difficult to stay a long time without a doctor.

Here there are docs for kids until 18 years and they have plenty of space, normal doctors often are full so you need to search for who has free slots, no points here, just talking with people to get a half decent one that has space... If your doc retires you get a substitute tough

It's good going for medical checkups, thank God you even have family health history which I believe will always help you in your medical consultation.

Medical checkups are important for sure!

This is one sacrifice we all have to make. Just spend the money and take the check-ups, at least nothing major will creep up on you and catch you by surprise. You'll find it in time and squash it. I'm glad with how you've been able to create a routine with it. It's impressive.😇

The soon we get something is better...my father was diagnosed with cancer after not feeling anything! He just went to a regular blood exam and found some liver markers up ... no symptoms, nothing. Most of the things can be caught early and be treated in a better way this way!

Wow... this is why it's so important!

Buuuuz! #hivebr

I'm twelve years ahead of you, and it just gets worse the older you get. More tests... But it's better than dying in your twenties or thirties which was common a few hundred years ago!
