Every person in the world does something for their living. Some of us do things out of our interest, and some do them as part of their hobby. Some choose to follow in the footsteps of their parents or grandparents. And sometimes it's a mix of all. But in the end, we do something to earn, to live, to fulfill our responsibilities.

I am a Mechanical Engineer and now working as a Mechanical Designer in a company. The way I reached this position is also interesting. In the Indian education system, up to class 10th or matriculation, the subjects we study are general, like the local language, English, science, social studies, math, etc. After completing 10th grade, students choose to pursue more specific subjects. Those interested in medicine choose biology, those interested in accounting choose math, those interested in engineering choose physics, etc. I studied in a government school, and to be honest, at the age of 15 or 16, we really do not know what we are going to do in life. And that's the reason we need some mentors to help us understand the different paths we can choose and how we can choose them. After 10th grade, the time is very important, and the way we choose is also equally important. I am from a middle-class family, and our parents only completed basic studies. They were ready to support us for higher studies, but they were not in a position to guide us. We were fortunate that our teachers were very good; they explained the different streams we could choose and how we could proceed. After discussion, my brother and I chose to pursue technical studies, and this is how we started our journey to become engineers. I am a mechanical engineer, and my brother is a computer science engineer, and I proudly say that we were the first engineers from our area.

After completing my engineering studies, I was looking for a job. For a fresher, it's not easy to get a job in their field of interest. The best way is to share your resume with consultants and friends. I also did the same and attended some interviews. One of my seniors from college was in contact with me; he asked me to come to the capital region as there was good scope for getting a job because of the industrial belt in this area. I shifted to the capital region and fortunately got a job that was a mix of sales and technical work. The job involved a lot of local traveling as I had to meet different representatives from different companies. During that time, I learned about an opening in a design software company from another senior from college. The good part was that the company was ready to hire freshers and provide two months of design software training. I decided to shift my job as touring and traveling was not my interest. Fortunately, I got selected, and after two months of training, they offered me a position as an application engineer. From that moment, my career took a new turning point. Now, I was in a white-collar job where I sat in an office and worked on mechanical design using computer software. I worked there for two and a half years and then joined another company. In my second company, I also worked for almost the same duration, and after that, I got the opportunity to join a Navratna company. For the last more than 10 years, I have been working in the design department.

It common saying that you choose your carrier or your carrier will choose you. For me I choose my carrier as a engineer and happily working indesih department where I use my technical skill for new innovation and designs. I am passionative a out my nature of work and like to be part of company. Initially I was away form my native place and spend more thbe 10 year away form my native place but fortunately now got transferred near to my native place and it took only 2 hour by road to reach my native home. So its good as I can take care of my mother whenever she needs me.
