A Dreadful Incident: The Accidental Car Crash

Dear Hive friend and Hive Learner Memebers,

On a pleasant Sunday afternoon, my family and I were visiting our native village, a tradition we upheld every weekend. Both my mother and grandmother have resided in this village for over 40 years and have grown fond of the tranquil surroundings. Despite my numerous attempts to convince them to move to the city where I reside, they have shown a strong attachment to their village life, finding solace and comfort there.

After my office hours on Saturday, we made our way to our beloved native place. As the Sunday sun shone brightly, a relative paid us a visit in the afternoon. Soon, evening approached and we all gathered near the main gate of our house, readying ourselves to depart. Parked just before the gate was my car, with my child and I eagerly waiting for my wife to join us. Little did we know that our peaceful day was about to take a drastic turn.

We owned two cars – one for my personal use, and the other for my mother's convenience in the village. Although my mother didn't drive, she would hire a driver whenever necessary. Since my car was blocking the space where the other car needed to be parked, my mother requested me to move the other vehicle to in front of our house once I had taken my car out. Feeling somewhat lazy, I assigned this task to my wife, who was adept at driving. She had experience driving in both the quiet village lanes and bustling city roads. She agreed without hesitation, and so the unexpected chain of events began.

With my guidance, my wife started the car and shifted it into reverse gear to reverse and park it in front of our house. However, being a nine-year-old vehicle, it wasn't as smooth as she had expected. The clutch was slightly loose, adding to the struggle. I realised the situation, I stepped out of my car to help her, I asked if she needed me to take over, but she assured me that she could handle it. She managed to drive the car halfway, but I could sense that she was struggling due to the looseness of the clutch. Additionally, the sloping road made it challenging, causing the car to move slightly forward when she released the clutch.

Suddenly, to our dismay, the car began moving backwards at full speed, crashing into the wall behind it. The impact caused the car to come to a halt, and I rushed towards it. Fearful for my wife's safety, I immediately opened the door and motioned for her to exit. Thankfully, she was physically unharmed. Confused by what had happened, she simply replied that she didn't know. Understanding the situation, I realized that the looseness of the clutch had made her panic and lose control. Instead of pressing the brake pedal, she inadvertently pressed the accelerator, causing the car to accelerate in reverse.

The rear of the car suffered significant damage as it collided with the wall, shattering the back window. However, by some stroke of luck, no one had been standing behind the car at that moment. The vehicle could be repaired, but the consequences could have been devastating if someone had been caught in its path. Grateful for this fortunate outcome, I guided my wife inside the house, urging her to take some time to calm herself. It was undoubtedly a horrifying experience for us all. After some time we resume our journey, my wife was quiet sitting beside me on front seat. I inquired once more about her well-being, but she was still preoccupied with the recent incident that had the potential for significant consequences. I reassured her, urging to let go and forget about it. The incident took almost three months back but when ever I visit our native house the whole incident again come infront of my eyes.
