I'm not sure about a pension. Not sure how that works in Ireland. The biggest concern for me would be that he has no hire-able skills and who is going to hire an unskilled dude in his 50's?

You have to pay your taxes each month to claim a state pension and depending on how much he has paid will effect the overall pension. Unskilled in your 50"s I agree is a hard sell to any employer.
well in that case I hope that he was wildly successful before he made the move to Asia. Unfortunately for him, I don't think that is the case, nor do I think he family is particularly wealthy. He is likely going to have to work till he dies.
