The other day, I published an exceptionally uninteresting post. I added a warning to not read it because it was so uninteresting... a warning which, of course, was intentionally unheeded and instead attracted extra attention. I'm betting this very paragraph is also going to entice someone to waste their precious minutes of life reading the drivel I wrote.

This came as no surprise to me. Although my warning was sincere, I knew that a request to not read the post would simply result in someone clicking on it to read it. I did hope that by the 2nd paragraph, the reader would be dulled enough to the point that they'd quit Hive forever (or at least stop reading the post), but apparently some people read through the entire thing. I bless their souls for being able to do so.

I simply find it funny how such tricks can manipulate people's behaviors in a predictable fashion. I can't deny - I'm also be tempted by a post that says it shouldn't be read. This type of behavior is not a revelation to me or to anyone who's even heard of the basics of psychology. Why do we do this to ourselves? Some sense of curiosity and excitement certainly factors into the equation. Indeed, there's a special irony in the fact that people clicked on the most mundane post imaginable to gain the excitement of reading it.

Well, I've always liked playing around with people. Consider this another one of my silly little tricks. I'm sure there will be more to come. Maybe it's time I turned this into a satire account? Or, who knows... maybe it already is a satire account. 😨 😱
