Unstoppable Convolvulus althaeoides

I have been waiting patiently for them to finally open. I knew they grow near a path I take a few times a week, and I could see the leaves and buds showing up. But I wanted the flowers. The large, intense, round flowers.
Finally the day has come, and as every previous year, they did not disappoint.

It is a weed, what else. But it doesn't mean it is not pretty and I remember some years ago I tried to get some to grow in my pot. I wanted it to climb around the balcony fence, but that didn't really work out, and I had more cleaning than I wanted to :p
Now I admire them only in the wild.

It is a perennial plant native to the Mediterranean region. It will crawl along the ground and climb on anything they find on their way. Which has its charm if it's a wild area. I can imagine it can be a bit problematic if they try to take over the garden and all the fancy bushes planted then :D

Flowers are about 4 cm across with a darker center, and they are as delicate as poppies. If you ever touch poppy petals, than you will know how lovely, and fragile they are. They will slowly show up along the stem as the older ones face and produce seeds.

Blooming time starts around March and lasts until the end of June. The hot and dry summer dries the flowers, leaves and stems. The plant goes dormant, and in late winter it starts growing again.

You can see that the flower stems are not very long, but since they can climb up, they do seem to grow quite high. Some of the ones here were trying to reach the top of the grasses.

And now a bit of a photo spam, because I could not stop shooting. They all looked so nice. And I knew soon they would be all gone.

Wild flowers are beautiful, and this one you got has a lovely pink colour. I purposely don't deweed in some areas of the garden to let the wild flowers grow, i like them. 😊🩷

If I had a garden of my own I would keep part completely wild like that too.

Absolutely, wild flowers are so pretty. I had a few wild plants and I just let it grow. Like this one, I have never seen this before, possibly a bird drops the seed and grows. Luckily I didn't cut it as the flowers are gorgeous. 🩵

That's chicory. It grows wild here too and yes, the flowers are super pretty!

Ohh thank you, Wow chicory, I heard of it as very beneficial but now I just seen one. I never planted it. 🩵

You're welcome :) Like you said, probably bird or wind brought the seeds. Another cool thing about wild plants. They just show up uninvited :D

Yup, some surprises. 😊

These dainty and delicate flowers are lovely and fragile.

Yea... and so pretty!

I feel like i have seen these kind of plant close by but then i had no idea that it closes and needs to open, I only see them when they are opened. This is beautiful

Maybe a similar one... The crawling type seem to be very popular.

Ohh okay

Your photography are great and wildflowers are beautiful!

Thank you!

Dazzling wildflowers.

Indeed.

These are amazing shots and the flowers are so colorful.

Thank you :)

Hello dear friend @ewkaw
good morning Patience finally had its fruits, or rather its flowers. I am a fan of wildflowers, and these are beautiful flowering plants.
I think I have seen it here in my city Corrientes-Argentina
Your photographs are beautiful. Have a great day

Shoot them next time you see them and we will know if they are the same :)

Thank you!

It is.

I think I already seen this flower somewhere, it's really pretty🥰

That's very possible :D

I get shivers when I see something like this. It reminds me of my enemy binding weed "Calystegia sepium". Great shots btw

Hahaha.. Oh I know those little white ones. Very pretty :D
Thanks!

:)
