back in the day there was so much incredible music to feast your ears on. i always tended toward the longer epic pieces over the shorter hits. here are three of my favorites featuring members of the infamous 27 club
Jimi Hendrix (November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970)
1968 The Jimi Hendrix Experience: 1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be
in addition to Hendrix's amazing guitar playing, singing and song writing he pioneered a number of incredible effects creating an entire new world of sound without a synthesizer.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes Hendrix as "arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music*. Mitch Mitchell on drums, Noel Redding on bass completed the trio while guest Chris Wood is on flute
Alan Wilson (July 4, 1943 – September 3, 1970)
1970 John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat: Boogie Chillen no 2
from the album Hooker N Heat released after Wilson's death
The Blind Owl is amazing on harmonica here but he was also a guitarist, singer and composer of many of Canned Heat's songs. the pairing of hooker and heat was a match made in heaven
Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971)
1967 The Doors; The End
the version from The Doors debut album is the second take in the studio without overdubs. Morrison is backed with great performances with Robby Krieger on the guitar, John Densmore drums and Ray Manzarek on organ
