the old mill: halle mølle

in Photography Lovers6 months ago (edited)

Halle Mølle is a local history museum featuring both an old grain mill and an old upright sawmill. neither of them are working still but some of the structures are well maintained and much of the equipment is intact. in the summer the museum is open on Sundays. the residence of the original owners is on the premises and there is an authentic school classroom from back when the mills were in operation. but i was there when it was not open so this series of photos is from the grounds only.

the wheel and shoot assembly is about 170 years old

but the only water i saw passing the dam here was through this pipe.

detail of the drive attachment to the center or hub of the wheel. see next photo

this pipe to the grain mill had far more capacity than the shoot for the water wheel

but it is need of repair that probably is not going to happen

the grindstone seems to be set up to function. it takes surprisingly little water in the shoot to turn the wheel. i will have to return when the wheel and grindstone are in motion

detail of the grindstone

even more zoomed in

this bridge crosses the stream that is at present only a trickle from that pipe shown earlier

the view down to the mostly dry streambed.

i took all these photos with our Lumix FZ300. i edited them on the free version of photoshop express

I have never seen a mill as old as this before, it would be great to see it in operation
Your photographs are really beautiful @eolianpariah2

thanks so much the nice reply. that water wheel is about 170 years old. i would also like to see it in operation so maybe i will go back on Sunday and see.

This mill must be a very old one but never seen or been to a mill before though…
