an evening walk to the likhole waterfalls

in Wednesday Walk3 months ago (edited)

though we had frequent stops along the way, we had been driving most of the day. when we arrived at our cabin at Hov we unpacked everything we needed for the night and made a quick dinner. it had been raining earlier and was still cloudy as we set out on our evening walk to the nearby waterfalls called likholefossen

there was a trail that crossed a bog which was very wet but we were psyched to see the falls so we didn't mind getting our feet a little wet.

luckily the trail avoided the biggest puddles

and we could hear the thundering ahead of us

then the falls came into view. the snow in the surrounding mountains hadn't finished melting so there was plenty of water flowing in the river and over the falls

and the river below it was running high and fast

seeing the falls with this much water is so elating and uplifting. it is not a particularly high drop but the amount of water rushing down and crashing on the rocks is exciting and the bridge crossing over is quite close to the water level

with this solid safe metal bridge it feels very safe to cross when you are at the edge but as we got out directly over the falls we held on tight to the rails for a while before relaxing enough to take a few shots

the view from the bridge looking upstream was idyllic and calm giving no indication of what was going on underneath us

the river below the falls had much more white water. the name of the river is gaula and the surrounding mountains in the area are called gaularfjellet. it is in westnorway not far from balestrand on the northside of sognefjord

there are more spectular waterfalls in west norway but when you visit them you won't be alone. here we are away from the main tourist routes and a little off season so we had the falls to ourselves the entire time. here hindavi is on the bridge, now fully confident enough about her safety she is so invigorated she started to jump up and down. the thrill of the falls makes one forget their age, everybody is a child in this kind of nature

but she still shouts to me not to go too close to the edge

i don't listen but of course i am careful as i find a spot to sit and focus in on the scene for a few shots in the fading evening light

and breathe in the intoxicating fresh mountain waterfall air

you gotta love it

i took all these photos with my S22 phone

Wow that's just incredible. Makes me want to visit Norway even more than I do. Love how @hindavi has her inner child beaming here. It just looks so invigorating and soul restoring!!

if you are looking for a trip to impressive nature norway is a great choice. climate can be iffy and prices are exorbitant but there are ways around some of that and the nature is free. and it is definitely invigorating !INDEED
