In the previous adventure we were in one of the settlements of the brotherhood of assassins, which was besieged by a war galleon and its crew. The leader of the brotherhood was berating me that it was all my fault, which is partly true and partly not. Still, I was not going to let the English get away with it, for they had also seized my crew and my ship.
So it was with the help of Kidd and a blowpipe that I gradually freed both my crew and the members of the brotherhood. I must say that the blowgun is very useful and every time I freed someone I got more darts. Not without first observing through the spyglass a slave trader named Laurens Prins who was the leader of the expedition that had attacked the settlement.
**Kidd regretted not being able to reach him, as that had been his objective for some time. After the boat retreat I was approached by the leader of the brotherhood and exonerated me of my sins, but he let me know that I am still not welcome among them.
Taking advantage of the fact that everything was calmer, I talked with Kidd about how the ideals of the brotherhood are somewhat similar to those of the republic that Tatch wants to impose in Nassau. I also let him know that those ideals don't drive me, to which he mentions that if I don't want to help for free, then let him opt to fulfill the assassination contracts that are in place in certain cities. This seemed very timely to me, as they pay well.
Back on the ship, the first thing I do is to change my outfit, as I was wearing one that was not in keeping with my time 😅. And although I wore one that wasn't the original either, no one can deny that it looks pretty good, since it matches the new sails of the Jackdaw.
Back in Nassau I meet two new pirates who were coming from the south with very good news. These pirates were known as Charles Vane and Jack Rackham and were met by Tatch who now calls himself Blackbeard. Blackbeard welcomed them to Nassau and asked them what business they had so far north, to which they replied that the governor of Cuba was awaiting the arrival of a large haul in one of his forts.
Such news was enough to make Blackbeard look me in the eye and make me understand that I should go ahead and attack the fortress to seize the booty. Without a second thought I headed for my ship to set course for the fortress.
When I reached the waters near that place, I stopped to analyze the panorama and draw up a plan. I also take the opportunity to ask Adewalé if he was planning to return to Africa with his share of the loot and he immediately lets me know that he cannot return to a place where he has never been. According to what he tells me, he was born in this part of the world and only considers Jackdawn and his crew as his country.
When everything was ready, the combat began and after disabling their defenses with my mortars I was able to disembark at the fortress post. In order to take the fortress I had to eliminate the officers to demoralize the troops and then reach the operations room.
After making my way and leaving a few corpses of officers behind me I could reach the operation room and when I opened its doors I found Governor Torres surrounded by gold and a small escort. Immediately, the interrogation began and after a bit of threats and psychological pressure I was able to find out the purpose of such a fortune.
It turns out that that gold was to pay the ransom of the sage Bartholomew Roberts which was in the hands of the slaver Laurens Prins and yes, he is the same one who attacked the settlement of the assassin brotherhood. I retreat from the fortress but not before hoisting the black flag and ready to communicate to Kidd that I already know the location of our next target.
