Foodborne diseases and food safety

Food can be a source of pathogenic bacteria, leading to many diseases. One such bacteria is Listeria, which can cause illness in the elderly, those with weak immune systems, and pregnant women. In pregnant women, it can even result in the death of the fetus.

Deli meats, hot dogs, soft-serve ice cream, and packaged or bagged salads are common sources of these bacteria. Cooking hot dogs and deli meats at temperatures over 165°C and thoroughly washing fresh fruits and vegetables are recommended for safety.
