Occasionally some photos tend to be in very unexpected ways or the idea just comes to mind in fractions of a second, a click! While I was walking through the Recoleta cemetery taking some pictures of the mausoleums, sculptures and spaces, I passed by some mausoleums that contained glass and others where besides glass they had blocks inside, I had my camera in hand and I immediately remembered a famous photographer of the time.
The idea came to my mind to make some self-portraits in the style she used to do while she was in the streets. I wanted to do it a bit different though, so for most of the photos I wanted to focus on silhouettes and also take advantage of emphasizing the texture and relief of the bricks I mentioned before.
For this photo I wanted to put the focus point on the railings so that I would be out of focus, I thought it was a good idea to have them in black and white.
When I passed by here, I immediately thought: "Vivían Maier", who does not know her, she was an American photographer who focused on capturing the daily life of the streets, she is also known as the photographer of the self-portraits, because there is material where she used to do this through reflections in glass, windows of some place in the streets where she walked.
She photographed the streets of New York and Chicago between the 1950s and 1960s, but she did not always develop all her photos, in fact, more than 100,000 photographic reels were recovered, of which approximately 30,000 had not been developed.
Self-portrait of Vivian Maier.
Returning to the present, these are the photos I mentioned about texture and relief through glass. I don't know, I simply intended to recreate a bit of these self-portraits that I had known reading the story of this photographer and I wanted to do it my way, taking advantage of the space I had in front of me.
This last photo is the shadow on the surface of a wall, the sunlight was and still is too intense so it could reflect anything on anything really.
It is interesting to share our material about the photographic works we do and about the tours and places we visit but it is more attractive if we add some valuable information related to this field, it seems to me that mentioning this great photographer is a plus that may interest someone and who does not know her can do it through this post.
@erikah maybe there is something interesting here that you might like 😁
