Dates is just a fruit. In my country it is strongly associated with fasting in Ramadhan month. However something silly happened recently and well its not silly but how people reacted and followed it up is what silly.
Indonesia Ulema Council or Indonesia's Top Islamic Scholars declared total ban towards Israeli Dates product. There is nothing wrong with that regarding the situation on the Palestine-Israel conflict, everyone have their own right to stand on their believe. The next phase is people trying to announce this ban to whole country and somehow I start to feel awkward about this.
It's not the ban, its how people communicate it that is very silly. There are plenty misleading articles, stupid hoax, and retard information everywhere. Some even get famous and known across the nation. Let me pick some of most found articles retweeted, reposted, copy pasted everywhere.
1 . This is how you differ dates planted by Israeli
God Damn, Dates is a fruit and It comes from a tree. Whoever plant those trees, the result will always be the same. Soil, climate, humidity, and other environment variables that influence how the tree and fruit will grow... Not the hand who plant them.
2 . This is How Israel dates taste
LMAO, I thought Top Scholars already told them not to eat those, but these people wrote those articles as if they ate and shared for the shake of others. The contents mostly are hoax, for example, it said that one sweet taste like coming from artificial sweetener. They put all the bad things there and somehow many people bought those story,
3 . Don't buy cheap Dates, its Israel products.
Some people spread story about Israel tried to dominate the dates market by dumping the price in here. Sadly this one was trending for some days and made many merchants suffered big loses. Seriously, nobody wants to established a losing business, all must get profit to sustain their life. Sending FUD like this really hurt local business.
4 . Check Barcode, if it is started with number 729, its Israel Product
This is silly too. It is correct that 729 is international product code for products come from Israel, but the barcode on the product is not following on this rule. Manufacturer here has their own way to make the code, and it is irrelevant with those information shared and viral for weeks
If you want to boycott products from certain country, don't do those silly things. Posting hoax in order to make your account famous or trending in top page is not a good way, a very unethical conduct.
A proper way can be start by giving the names of the brands. For example telling people the name like King Solomon, Bon Bon, Star Dates, and so on. Make sure you gives name that you have recheck and clarify the accuracy of the information. Don't put wrong name in just to make you look smart having capability to make a long list.
If you are not sure what to share or inform others, just share the link of the official scholars website. They list the name there, don't try to be a smart ass which can make you slandering people.
So What Dates That I Pick?
Ok so which dates do I like? Recently I got Medjool from a friend and it tastes great. However currently Medjool is very expensive because it is in hype or trending. People FOMO (fear of missing out) buying that dates blindly.
Because I am a very stingy person, so I try to get one with the best value. I tried to get one by visiting a nearby convenience store.
As usual, the place I sought first is on the discount stand. I saw 3 Dates in 2 Brand. Hijra and Crown Dates. I think those 3 suffer from that silly FUD about Israel Dates.
Hijra comes from Tunisa, it is actually a Deglet Nour Variant. The Dates Crown on the plastic box is a Khalas variant and the right one is Khenaizi variant. Both of those Date Date Crown come from UAE.
My choice was this one, Date Crown Khenaizi. I did not not buy Hijra because the pack was too big, I could not finish those in 2-3 days. The Khalas was a great choice too, however there was one reason why I pick Khenaizi, because the package came with a zip.
I can bring this zip bag everywhere, and close it after taking some. Today is the third day and those dates are still great.
I was going to take a picture of Medjool and Khenaizi side by side, but when I arrived at home, the medjool were already eaten out. Anyway those 3 dates are a cheaper or maybe I should say it a Value product ones. Not Like Medjools which is a premium product.
Maybe later I will try to get Medjool again. Let see it later, and lastly... Thank you for reading my post
