I am back on Taco Tuesdays !!!

It's been a while since my last Taco Tuesdays post. I have been very busy recently, I gathered several subjects for Taco Tuesdays but I just could not find the time to make a post about them. And Today which is Wednesdays, I manage to get a couple hours to make this post again.

I am going to make this one a bit different, instead of writing with a fix format or outline, this post is kind of free writing one. It means I just sit here, open HIVE d.apps and type this post.

Let's start this story, which was a week ago

I was bored at my new office so I decided to take a long walk looking for some outlets for my lunch. I had prepared to spend above my budget that day, well that's what we had to do if we got bored with daily routine, right?

The outlet or food stall that got my interest was this one, A Tahu Campur seller. Tahu is Tofu and Campur means mixed. Yes, just combine those two words, it means exactly what it is... A Mixed Tofu.

Tahu Campur of Mixed Tofu is a eastern Javanese cuisine, which people just mixed everything with tofu, from noodles, rice cakes, bean sprout, lettuce and some crackers. Then they add some beef stew and some petis. Petis is a black paste and made from food waste especially from soup based processed food. So it is not like japanese miso because it is made directly from soy, this petis is exactly from the waste of other processed food.

I can not find what is the exact naming in English, because Petis is not widely popular. If you search on google, you will find that Only some part of Indonesia and Malaysia which people often use this food seasoning.

Anyway back to our topic today...

I picked that food stall for my topic due to two reasons. First there were many cars parked there so it meant many people ate there that time. It's a no brainer move if you confuse where to eat, just come to the most crowded stall.

Second I saw they were very open, in term of they displayed the price list there. Tahu campur was sold for 22.000 Rupiah, or around 1,3 USD. Not cheap but not expensive too, a well thought price or a very reasonable price for a street food.

8.png

The place was full but not to crowded. I got the first table in front, well not a comfortable one but its quite clean that time. There was another empty table inside, but I was not an asshole who sat on 6 chairs table alone for myself, so yeah I picked this spot incase some group of people came, they could sit inside.

9.png

Of course I would not eat alone. I brought my buddy there, the famous Beelzebub who often accompanied me on my Taco Tuesdays. He looked so happy there

thats what he did, rubbing his hands LoL

They Should Come In Pink

Actually the place is well known for eccentric staffs. They dress in black, long hair, and their shirt is about death, black metal, Megadeth, punk, satanic and many more. Some said they are punk dudes, but I dont think so, punk is not like them.

3.png

However that day it did not click on me that they were hard core guy. The reason was simple, from I came entering their outlet, until I finished and paid then left out, they kept playing Le SSerafim album, one of the controversial KPOP Girl Band.

I knew this group due to their viral moves on tiktok, and my people cursing and saying bad thing about them because they could not sing well.. only dancing and their live performance was a disastrous and they wanted to quit due to heavy critism they got.

Well I don't bother if some people like KPOP girlband... but when those people are dudes with long hair, pierced accessories on their nose and eye, wearing dark hardcore theme shirt... then playing that kind of songs whole day long... Maannn, that's incompatible to each other.

My Tahu Campur

Here comes my order, the Mixed Tofu from Eastern Java Island

4.png

At the first glance, I could only see rice cake cuts, some meat, some sweet potato and crackers. Let check what inside that dish one by one.

5.png

I started to scramble the dish, and I found a white bean sprout underneath. The yellow line one was an egg noodle. You could see some greenish things there, that's the lettuce. So Where were the Tofu?

7.png

There, I found them. It was a square tofu cut into pieces. Although this dish is called as Mixed Tofu, it's interesting that Tofu is just a small part of the dish. They do not look like they are the main thing here, but that's exactly what a Mixed Tofu here.

6.png

So I tried a scope first, some bean sprout, a rice cake and that sweet potato. The taste was indeed a good one for a street food stall and I was very surprised... because that was not a sweet potato. it was a processed meat. I did not know what it was, taste like a galatines but the texture was different. Maybe you could help me with that, if you have some idea what it is...

10.png

And this was the main dish. Instead of beef stew, they gave the stew without any beef meat because they replaced the meat with this one. This is popular in Indonesia as Kikil or Tunjang. Most people know kikil or tunjang as a cow skin on feet area but actually tunjang is not skin. Tunjang is Cartilage, it has a chewy texture and a bit tough.

I like tunjang a lot but I know I should not eat them too much. Not Good for health, it is famous as one of the culprit why many people here get a spike in cholesterol.

Ok, That's all for my Taco Tuesdays post today, I hope my post here could give you guys more idea about your lunch or dinner or maybe it could enrich your knowledge about food around the world, especially from my country Indonesia. Thank you for coming here and feel free to leave any comments below as you please.
