Welcome back to My TACO TUESDAYS post!!!

Today we have NASI GILA, or in English It is CRAZY RICE!!! Yes CRAZY RICE, not crazy rich. It is an Indonesia Crazy Rice, which almost similar with the Nasi Goreng or Fried Rice.

It started years ago, maybe decades ago when a Fried Rice stall try to make something different, by making fried rice without any rice first. They mixed everything in, then after the mix was well cooked, they poored on top of Rice. The mix was actually something they should mix with rice and fried all together.

People who tried see this thing as something Crazy... Some even loved it and said this as something that Crazy... None knows which crazy words was used for this name, maybe too many CRAZY said... Somehow people agreed to name this as CRAZY RICE.

Here I shared a simple cooking recipe for NASI GILA or CRAZY RICE, incase you want to try making this dish at your home. The general concept is simple, just make a fried rice without the rice, pour it all on top of the plain rice... same as pouring bolognaise meat sauce on top of spaghetti.

Honestly I like fried rice better than crazy rice, however I dare to recommend this dish because it is worth to try. It gives a slightly different flavor than a regular fried rice.

My Crazy Rice Hunt

People who make or sell Nasi Gila (Crazy Rice) always have Nasi Goreng (fried rice) in their menu list, however this is not a vice versa. Not all Nasi Goreng stall are selling Nasi Gila.

OH look there, I found a stall with Nasgor Gila written on their cart. Nasgor means Nasi Goreng, fried rice. This means they sell nasi goreng, nasi gila, and nasi goreng gila. Nasi goreng gila is a mix between Nasi Gila and Nasi Goreng. So they make the mixture twice, one for fried rice, and then one again they pour it on the fried rice.

Some people love Nasgor Gila but not for me. The soy sauce flavor is too redundant, definitely not my preference.

Ok here was my order, A regular nasi gila. On all Nasi Gila stall, you can order extra egg, either as a sunny side up or an omelet. This time I order the ordinary one, or their default menu.

The styr fried mix on top were scrambled egg, shredded chicken, chopped sausage and cabbage. As you could see above, they all mixed and styr fried with fried rice seasoning, coming with a bit soy sauce color, dark brown.

They gave a scope of pickle, consist of shallot, cucumber and carrot. I was not lucky, so mine was dominated by a cube of cucumber cut.

It would not be a good Indonesian street food if they did not give an extra crisp or cracker. This stall gave me some Onion Cracker. Some stalls even gave everything, from crisp, cracker and even cheese stick LoL.

Overall as a street food, you won't find people selling Nasi Gila at a high price. This dish mostly costs you around 1 to 3 USD. Mine here was an exactly 1 USD. So I believe you should try to have this atleast once.

That's for my Taco Tuesday today, Thank you for visiting my post here. See you next time
